Will losing more 466s mean no scope to increase some of the peak 8 or 10 car working to 10 or 12 in future?
I also wonder if SE have any plans to double some of the 5-car peak workings out of London Bridge and do they have the available 376 or 717 stock?
I was checking bustimes.org and since Arriva gave up the 477 a couple of buses haven't been used in a week (no surprise) - in addition to others not in use for some time. A few more sold/moved or scrapped looks likely given 04 and 09 plates. They must have about 30 buses now in regular use at...
Arriva's operation of the 477 ends tomorrow.
Requires two buses and I wonder if once it's ended they'll scrap a couple of their oldest darts from 2004?
Once it's gone Dartford will only have the 480 and 414 from Arriva. If anyone (eg go-ahead now they will operate a 477 replacement and Fast...
TfL are in surplus so do have money for additional staffing, improving stations, more off-peak services etc. In addition they take a long term view opposed to TOCs and DfT. More staff, better stations, frequency = improved ridership numbers and revenue. Short term investment for long term gain...
It's not just the maps though but apps. London Overground shows prominently but TOCs don't on many. Why TOCs don't sort this with app companies I don't know. Usual lack of initiative I suppose (which is why many want TfL to takeover lines - TOCs could do things - but don't).
An example of how TfL could improve basic things is signs at Essex Road station. You'd not even know a station was there given the tiny signs. TfL would have a big bright orange roundel up in no time visible to the many passing bus passengers and drivers. "Here's a station!"
Such simple things...
A good idea as if nothing else TfL realise you have to invest short term to reap the rewards long term as amply seen with London Overground while the DfT's attitude is penny wise and pound foolish. A short term cut here or there? No issue. Until it reduces custom.
See how DfT rail services...
One of the great problems in many of the areas mentioned in this thread is that there's massive residential development around many stations but little associated funding is ever used to improve stations and infrastructure. There's a lack of holistic thinking and funding which seems worse than...
Woolwich Dockyard can take up to 10 car. Amusingly Thameslink said that's why they don't call but it's only ever had 8-car from them.
In the early 1990s during the 12-car Network SouthEast programme WD was supposed to see a primitive SDO. That standard couldn't then apply when another 12-car...
The thing to remember about Woolwich Dockyard as noted is that its close to a planned major housing programme. Same as Belvedere and Erith.
Thameslink skips it despite taking the same time from Dartford to London Bridge as the SE all stoppers do and slower than the semi fast used to do it, and...
Ideally there would be 6tph from Kent to Abbey Wood to connect with Crossrail.
Two from Dartford as now, two from Gravesend replacing the trains via Sidcup and two from Medway. Ditch the Thameslink if needed. A nice solid turn up and go service to and from Crossrail from a decent chunk of...
Hard to see why it's be worth extending LO trains that are just 5 cars through Lewisham and beyond. Better to extend train lengths on other lines eg longer services via Catford Bridge to Hayes. Can it take 12-car with SDO and new stock?
That would support the many thousands of new homes planned...
Yep the Thameslink trains run close to the remaining SE services so post-cuts there's some sizable gaps which for a highly built up urban area in inner London is poor.
LO wouldn't do it. They didn't do and recovered much faster Liz line or no Liz.
I don't mind changing at London Bridge and one...
TfL fare scale is cheaper.
Station staffing higher.
More ticket gates. Not 100 per cent on LO but far higher than SE. Some SE stations are hard to do but not all.
TfL restored many post COVID cuts. Many on SE remain. There is scope to reintroduce many of the cut services eg Saturday is still...
Northfleet now run so few routes it wouldn't be a surprise if it closed. The lastest to stop is the 477 isn't it? Do they have space to shift the remaining buses to Gillingham depot?
Yep of course.
SE's internal data will more useful than the station figures which are nine months old by the time they're released. Already outdated if there's 5-10 per cent annual growth and when you have a thousand homes being built beside a station and starting to complete since early 2025...
They may also be waiting to see how passengers numbers settle as we're still in a post-covid recovery.
Given a fair few networkers have now been stripped that should enable the existing to keep running for 5 years+? Then again it's mostly the ABBs withdrawn and the BRELs still running.
