There is a possibility that 57312 will be painted green when the 57/6s are due repaint, however the blue paint on 312 is in pretty good condition.
57312 does have Dellner drop coupler heads, it's one of the reasons GWR are interested in it, as a rescue loco for the 387s. The drop coupler heads...
57305 will be leaving Reading ASAP as it is due E exam. Once completed 305 will join GBRF along with 57301, 303, 306 & 310 giving them 5 class 57/3s. GWR will lease 57312 direct from the Rosco to replace 57305.
That's not the case as the 701s should have been in service by now, and all 455s should have been scrapped two years ago, which gives 6 years maximum life based on future total fleet replacement. Porterbrook invested the money in re-tractioning and will not make that money back by the time they...
The difficulty with the 769 project was adding two diesel engines, with two alternators, and then feeding this supply into one powered carriage. If you have ever travelled on one it is strange to hear the diesel engines rev up and then the whine of the traction motors as they start to move. The...
The re-tractioning of the 455s to AC traction was solely financed by Porterbrook as a method of extending their life on SWT. First then took over the SWR franchise and ordered total fleet replacement for the Metro routes making the £70M investment a waste of time and money.
Typical of the DFT! They decided that GWR only needed 30 x 387s and that the 'spare' three units should go to GTR who needed them, only for them to later decide that GTR don't need them and they should stay with GWR. A lot of work & inspections were carried out in between those decisions that...
It's a fair question to ask given that sometimes gossip is put across as fact. The information came from my boss on a Teams call this morning when I enquired about the project. My employer is closely involved with the 458 refurb. Sorry I can't (won't) say more than that.
There is some truth to that "internal e-mail". The 458 refurb programme has been paused, but it is due to funding no longer being mad available for the conversion and not because of corrosion (Which was addressed when they were converted to five cars). With the potential surplus of 701s when...
I used to visit the Netherlands quite regularly, but haven't been since 2019 (for obvious reasons). when I was last over there all buses, trams, light rail etc were cashless. You could pay cash at ticket offices on NS rail services but buying a paper ticket had a €1 supplement.
I think you have...
The units will go to Peterborough for storage, but at some point will need to go to Hornsey to have the relevant Mods packages to bring them up to the spec of the rest of the 387 fleet.
The source for the 387/1s are the Hornsey depot staff who I were speaking to last week. The third rail DC equipment is isolated due to it not being used. That doesn’t mean it cannot be reinstated when there is a need to run South of the river.
