If it’s being leased direct, I wonder if it will gain GWR livery?

It's a shame we've moved on from FGW Blue, as ROG blue wasn't too dissimilar!

Furthermore, I've just realised that 312 will need some attention to it's drop head coupler - being of the modified Tightlock variety than the more useful Dellner variant.

5 57s with Dellners would be perfect for GBRf to replace the haulage offering on the sleepers north of Edinburgh with something a little less diverse.

There is a possibility that 57312 will be painted green when the 57/6s are due repaint, however the blue paint on 312 is in pretty good condition.

57312 does have Dellner drop coupler heads, it's one of the reasons GWR are interested in it, as a rescue loco for the 387s. The drop coupler heads aren't a difficult job to change over though.

Now there's a thought,i know 57601 went to Ft William a few years ago but 47s could only go up there with special restrictions, I would allow the 73s to be sent back South to work out of Tonbridge and im sure the 66/67s would be useful elsewhere, yeah this would make sense i suppose

To be fair, the restrictions on class 57s on the West Highland are fewer than those applying to the 67s that formerly operated the sleeper service, or those for class 66s for that matter (No extended 40mph limits north of the horseshoe curve for 57s, just the same speed restrictions over specific bridges). It'd be a sensible idea.

They already have 2 67s to do that where it matters, and a 73 is fine for Aberdeen. Not really sure where 67023 and 67027 would really be useful elsewhere, and presumably the 57s are being procured for something else in any case.

Not only that but, 2 73/9s (73966 + 73967) spent the first half of this week working the Inverness Portion together due to a lack of available 66 / 67s, no reported issues with that pairing on the Sleeper.

It's a while since it was discussed in detail here but from what I remember, the locomotives need more than a Dellner coupler to be able to couple to the mk5 stock as there is communication between the locomotive and the carriages:

There is also a 61-way connection for a detachable jumper cable to allow transmission of communications and data between the coaches and the locomotive. Between the coaches there are also several other control and communications connectors.

From what I've read here they're not making any modifications to the 67's that are to be used for the sleeper to allow them to couple directly to the mk5 coaches.

Do the Class 73/9s have this electronic facility?

57305 will be leaving Reading ASAP as it is due E exam. Once completed 305 will join GBRF along with 57301, 303, 306 & 310 giving them 5 class 57/3s. GWR will lease 57312 direct from the Rosco to replace 57305.
Just remembered this was mentioned on the thread.

57312 came down to Reading from Crewe Gresty Rd on Tuesday 14/03, in company with 37401 as 0Z57.
57305 made the return journey with 37401 running as 0Z58.

57306 moved from Gresty Bridge to Longport today, I’m guessing that’s something to do with the GBRf transfer.

Reported on WNXX that 306 has been returned to Crewe after hand-back maintenance work with 305 now at Longport

57303 was reported as moving south on the M42 yesterday. Not sure where it was going.

Didn't they loan one recently as a banker at Tuebrook?
It was 57003 on loan from LSL, late Autumn last year. Contrary to what people suggest re 'banker' it is actually the lead loco from the docks and the 'train' loco (to Drax) is the banker.

The ETS Voltage is different for the Mk.5 Sleepers, it could be changed / updated, but it would be expensive given the ETS Equipment on a 57 is located on the underframe rather than in the former boiler compartment where it is on the 47s (after 47556 before someone jumps in to say that!) (where it would be even harder to change).

So no, it's not a 'simple change' for the 57s to be able to haul and ETS supply the sleepers.

The sleeper stock runs at the standard ETS voltage with the 73s and a higher voltage with the longer rakes behind the 92, it's explained here:
