    Favourite Alcoholic Drink

Lager : Peroni Ale: I visit a lot of beer festivals so I've sampled plenty. Best last year was the Cleopatra from Derventio Brewery, tasted at Didsbury Beer Festival. Also concur that Thornbridge's Jaipur is pretty awesome. Cider : Game Cock Spirit : Rum (Bacardi is my white rum of choice...

London Terminals from Huntingdon, can I proceed to Blackfriars

As the shortest route will blatantly be via the chord and Salford Central once the chord is completed, it will be a moot point after that. As for now though, as bb21 says, can of worms...:D

London Terminals from Huntingdon, can I proceed to Blackfriars

This is because all the above in Eagle's quote are London Terminals. So, in continuing from London Bridge to Cannon Street, or from London Bridge to Waterloo East or Charing Cross, you are still within "London Terminals". It's only when you leave London Terminals you exceed the validity of your...

2014 fares release delay - increase cut to RPI

Nice to see that the season ticket anomaly I made great use of when I lived down south is still there! :D

Anyone else finding it hard to find affordable accommodation?

You're telling me...I stayed in Liverpool on Easter Saturday - to show how much demand there is, the IBIS near the docks was charging £160/night  Now, I've been in one before, and IBIS hotels are not worth £160/night by any stretch...

    What is your favourite seat?

I can only speak for myself, but a lot of "airline" seats just don't have the legroom for the 6ft+ amongst us - I'm 6'2" and make a point to avoid the ones on Pendolinos. My favoured choice on the 390s is seat A02 or A03 (Aisle seat at a table, quiet coach).

    What's your desktop?

My current background - on Windows 8.1!!

    381S Tonight

Yes, Realtime trains shows a randomised headcode for freight services (commercially sensitive an all that). IIRC the only bit that corresponds is the first digit, i.e. it's a class 3.

Annual Gold Card - broken by phone

Well quite, and I'd never put them in the same pocket, but some people do, and unfortunately that's just the way it is - some folk won't learn. I understand what you mean, but that's a dodgy analogy - you're not going to "accidentally" throw a hammer at your TV, but there are for sure going...

    Internet bandwidth

On BT Infinity up here in Buxton - pretty good, and much better than my connection in Kent (with TalkTalk, about 7.5 download, 0.5 upload.)

    Canterbury-Dundee super off-peak

I've used such long-distance tickets that finish outside the Network Area many times before. Never have I had an issue travelling at peak time into London. I think most guards/TMs, at least on the mainline and HS1 services, seem to be pretty aware of this rule.

    Trivia: Odd peak services?

I always thought the Ore - Cannon St Southeastern service was a bit odd in a station that is mostly dominated by Southern services. Sent from my GT-I8160 using Tapatalk 2

    Hudderfield Doubling back

I would just interpret it as meaning what the example says - i.e. only allowing doubling back through the origin/destination if the route restrictions allow.

    Ticket Awareness at Piccadilly Manchester

But it's not like that's heavily staffed either!!

    Worst Pacer squealing

Wow, even Skelton Junction/Deansgate Lane Jn isn't that prolonged!!

    HS1 upgrades

And what this (effectively) means is that you'd have to buy the upgrade from a ticket office or on-train from the OBM, yes? You couldn't use a TVM as Southeastern machines don't allow you to alter the origin station. As yorkie says, it shouldn't really matter though, to my mind.

Railway Suicide, Is it becoming more of an issue?

Additionally, a significant amount of HS1 is in tunnels. As a new line it would never have LCs, and they could properly separate it from easy public access. Not so easy with the rest of the country's network!

    Messrooms

Well done that man!! To my non-railway eyes and ears, some of the aggressively territorial behaviour being discussed here does come across as pretty schoolboy.

    redspottedhanky charging twice

Even more specifically, how many complete transactions are there? By that, I mean listed in your statement, rather than just affecting the available balance? I ask as I've had Virgin, in the past, charge me (apparently) twice for two lots of tickets bought in the same transaction, accoring to...
