there is no restriction on the movement of fuel from North to South subject to the usual excise requirements (ie different excise duties apply in the different jurisdictions which has always been the case) - and nothing changed as a result of Brexit
How is the Irish government going to get oil prices down? The idea that governments can solve problems that are outside their control is getting ridiculous. Maybe the government should suggest it's contingent of UN peace keepers in Lebanon go and sort out the Middle East conflict.
I wonder if there is a case for abolishing all the regional railcards and having a national network railcard that is valid for discounts on off-peak tickets but with evening peak restrictions leaving major cities. Problem now is that regional and Intercity services are busier on a Saturday than...
Why would they want to operate a state owned TOC. While the party members might support nationalisation, Ministers did not want to take the blame for 8.15 being cancelled again. Having a private operator running the service meant they were one step removed from day to day complaints. Tony Blair...
At a previous job we had the opposite issue. The individual involved was working on restructuring a company that would undoubtably lead to job cuts. They turned up in a Porsche. Their boss received a call from the client saying they never wanted to see that car in their car park again.
Foxtons and Ludlow Thompson before it's take over use branded cars. Employers increasingly demand employees use hire cars when driving on company business.
Why are notices like this so badly written - trains running between Aberdeen and Inverness may not be cancelled, they are cancelled.
More helpful and reassuring would be a notice that stated
A low speed derailment of a non-passenger train near Insch means that the line between Aberdeen and...
I have a couple of mid-week trips planned to Leeds with unknown outbound and return times but travelling "off-peak". Are there any reasonable get arounds LNER's new ticketing system that will give me flexibility without having to get a full priced anytime return. Also how do you select their...
Travelling on the Central Line yesterday I was surprised to see two consecutive trains with a number of carriages almost completely covered externally in graffiti - we seem to be spoilt on the Northern line where I have not noticed any internal or external issues.
If you have segregated cycle routes then I can see cycling being less stressful but sharing roads with HGVs and impatient van and minicab drivers in London is certainly not stress free. Also depends what days you are travelling, Monday and Friday are far less crowded on the tube than midweek.
London Overground trains dont have toilets and have far more internal visibility. Not sure having staff on board is going to prevent graffiti in toilets unless staff are going to check them after everytime they are used.
We seem to go in phases with graffiti, at one time it was endemic and...
The strange point is that they could walk from work to the station in a reasonable time but then once at the station they were all over the place and took time to get over the stairs and to the platform. Suggests they consumed a large quantity of alcohol, knowingly or unknowingly in a very short...
The bizarre point about this unfortunate incident is that the victim is reported as having a glass of wine, walked from work to the station in a reasonable time and then started acting in a manner as if they were severely intoxicated with the medical report stating that a large amount of alcohol...
If any industry had that death rate it would be closed down overnight - it is strange that we accept such a situation, over 500 deaths every year, as a "sad fact". It's a scandal that HSE don't treat such deaths as rigoursly as those occurring on the shop floor. These deaths include non-workers...
By chance just travelled from Gorlitz to Cottbus in eastern Germany a route that has a number of request stops and use of onboard bell to notify the driver to stop. All seem to work very smoothly and helped get the train back on time to meet a tight onward connection.
