    Train Nicknames...

It also said 'like it or lump it', not 'tell me what you think of this'. And I do have a sence of humour, unlike Mr Taylor who clearly doesn't (only post I've ever seen him make is 'get a life', who does that??). Also, its not as though I'm trying to stop everyone from using nicknames, as...

    Pilot only planes

Sorry - typo, I only just noticed that. Then how come they can't take off in fog?

What do you do while you're on a train?

Watching other passengers without them realising seems to be a common one, which i'm afraid I'm guilty of as well. When I used to commute to Huddersfield every day I worked out quite a bit about some of the 'regulars' without ever speaking to them. Other then that, I watch the passing scenery...

Confirmation that Pacers should be abolished

I went to Batley Fire Station with uni for a demo of how they cut people out of cars (and they let us have a go with the jaws of life :D) Its amazing how soft cars really are, the cutters make light work of it.

    Preserved railways' train lengths

On the Abbey Light Railway its 3 coaches, mainly because we only have 3 coaches.

what has been modified on 47851 + maybe others?

Don't they used compressed air to start the engine, and the electric starter motor only when theres no compressed air available? I'm sure I remember someone telling me this.

Confirmation that Pacers should be abolished

Strange that some people have said they won't travel on pacers because they believe them to be unsafe, but will probably happily travel in a car.

    Unique railway stations

Summit station on the Snowdon mountain railway is the highest station above sea level in England and Wales. This is quite an obvious one though.

    Ah, ok. Thanks for that.

Has the Class 70 got a nickname yet?

    Class 101 vs Sprinters

But what would make them more noisy on corners then a 101? Just wondering.

    Class 101 vs Sprinters

Perhaps engine noise? Because of the hydrostatic transmission, Sprinters need to rev right up when the train is setting off, a 101 has a mechanical transmission, so doesn't need to. --- old post above --- --- new post below --- just read the 'on the curves' bit, in which case I don't know...

    Pilot only planes

GPS? sorry to hijack the thread btw. (no aviation - hijacking pun intended)

    Pilot only planes

But why? I mean, planes must have some pretty accurate compass on them, so they should be able to know when they are pointing in the right direction at the end of the runway without physically seeing it. Then all thats needed is a system to make sure the runway is clear. I'd have thought a...

    Trespassers and Network Rail

To put it another way, I have better things to be doing. :D I'd be happy to see these people get wiped out by the closest passing train, if it were not for the trauma for the driver and disruption to everyone else.

Has the Class 70 got a nickname yet?

Bombs?? Chubblies??? Do the enthusiasts that use these phrases WANT to be made fun of and called anoraks?? Its a class 20, or English Electric type 2.

    Trespassers and Network Rail

No, the fact he deleted all my comments on the subject suggests he KNOWS that he's trespassing. And BTP have better things to be doing.

    Trespassers and Network Rail

There was (and probably still is) a user on Youtube called 'Novawheels' posting high quality videos of trains. I noticed that a lot of the trains were whistling as they approached, and seemed very close to the camera, so I asked the guy if he was railway staff. The reply was almost comical 'No...
