You put in your text that SWR don't care any more, the question is have they ever cared about SWR. The way that they wasted all the money on the 442's, and then scrapping them, they could have had the whole 444 and 450 fleet repainted.
I feel that the 442's are a victim of their own success. Back in May 1988, does anyone remember that two units, 2401 & 2403 set the world speed record for 3rd rail traction, achieving 107 mph, and covering the journey from Waterloo to Weymouth in 1hr 59 mins, and how many times did Bournemouth...

It pains me so much to write this but i tend to agree, that it makes far more sense to replace the 442's with a common fleet ie the 350's as has...
re the direct service to Weymouth....Why not bring back the Poole semi-fast using the 442's on that as they can run as 10-cars, leaving the 444's for the hourly fast service to Weymouth, as it was in NSE days
the 442's are back where they belong WITH new traction gear and the Weymouth still gets...
I was reliably informed many years ago that when they were new the covers were removed because they were falling down and trapping depot staff and shunters hands. in 1991 they were replaced with a lighter weight cover and THEY were successful until they went for repaint and refurb at wolverton...
The way the "new normal" is looking they could easily go back onto the poole semi-fast services and leave the 444's for the weymouth as there is more and able to form into 10 car trains
do anyone know what is happening to 2407 as it has been put in a shed at Eastleigh, and according to a member of Eastleigh staff it may see further service with SWR. Can anyone clarify this or whatever its fate is.
Does anyone know what is happening to 2401, as it's believed to have a driving car heading up to the York museum. does any one know what livery it will be and will it be re-fitted with the front covers.
Can anyone give any insight to the fate of the 442's now back at Eastleigh, and does any one know why only the motor coaches of 2405 and 2424 have been scrapped leaving them basically a state of like a 'new' 4 TC
Going off tangent slightly.......I think the DfT should adopt one livery, like they have in Scotland with just a subtle branding on the side like SWR has "A Firstgroup and MTR company"
At last the Wessies are settling down into service again, but when are the remaining units going back into service?
So far we have 2403/6/8/10/13/14/17/20 & 23. When are 2404/9/11/15/16/18 & 22, entering service?
I appreciate that 2402 & 2419 will need more testing as they're getting the new...
If the Pompey commuters prefer how about putting a 10 car 458 on the route, with NO first class and No toilets that work......
Then they might appreciate what SWR are doing, and I for one would love to have the 442's back on the Bournemouth/Weymouth where in my opinion they belong. SWT were...
Please can someone explain why the motor coaches of 2405 and 2424 are being stripped for spares, when the 18 that SWR are using are going to be retractioned, and again does this mean that if SWR want these two along with those at Ely, they would also be retractioned, meaning that in theory you...
As noted in post #4363 about naming the 442's, i very much doubt whether SWR are interested in naming trains seeing as they have recently de-named all the 159's that were named. And in any case NSE/SWT had already named 442's when they had them, and the names were sold when they were taken off...
Can somebody please explain why, that when the 442's were brand new they didn't take this long to be commissioned and put into service, and they never had any clearance issues then so why are they being troubled by them now???
Yeah that sounds about right.....profit before paying passengers, that are travelling on trains standing and cramped when there is stock at eastleigh and papworth just rusting out!!!
