I also agree with you. If they don't like the 442's well lets have them back on the Weymouth/Poole services and let the PDL keep the blue 450's with some 444's put into the mix
I agree 100%. If commuters and passengers want cheaper fares, how about NOT working on their phones and laptops, after all they will be working when they get to work and travelling home they would have left work for the day. So lets all just sit back and relax and take some time to chill out.
I just want to say "well done SWR, and Bournemouth depot for bringing back to service the most stylish and comfortable EMU ever after Gat Ex/Southern basically tried to kill them.
If they dispose of the remaining six, that would be a complete waste of stock with life still in them and doesn't make any sense at all, especially after seeing the great job Bournemouth has done to restore them to their former glory. Surely it would make sense for the rosco to let SWR have them...
Can anybody help me to explain why the jumper covers were removed by Gat Ex, then some were refitted when they went into store but now they have all been removed again. I know that they have had problems with them from the start, but it seems strange why some were refitted, and have been removed...
Is this goodbye to 2405 & 2424. I took these pics today at Eastleigh Arlingtons. Such a good pair of units gone to waste!!!
442405 on the left and 442424 on the right
That is how they were built. the corner post gives the cab some extra strength and is also part of the body fabrication when built before the GRP cab was attached.
Yes. 2405 and 2424 have been refitted with jumper covers when they were moved to Eastleigh from Ely papworth, they were also refitted with shoe gear at the same time, but now 2424 has had shoe gear removed and it looks like 2405's is also being removed again.
Today i noticed that 2405 had been moved in Eastleigh depot and 2424 was moved to Arlingtons at Eastleigh and has had its shoegear removed again, so is this heading back to Ely papworth
in response to previous mentions in #3217 #3218, i totally agree that they should have their front covers put back on them and has been the case in previous times, after a while the area around the high level jumper pipes will get dirty and become black, so the covers need to be replaced to give...
I have noticed on flickr that 2401 has been moved to what looks to be coupled to 2412, and on "wikipedia" it says that 2401,2405,2407,2412,2421,& 2424 are for spares. Please can anyone confirm this or is there still a glimmer of hope that they will all be back with SWR
The problems with the 442's might not have even arisen, if stagecoach SWT had kept them and Bournemouth depot were left looking after them. Instead of thinking about profits, how about a new novelty, "thinking about the customer" because when they were removed from their proper route, passengers...
I quite agree with this quote, as everyone thought that stagecoach were the best thing, but if you care to look deeper
1/ they too had problems in their early days cancelling services due to staff shortages.
2/ SWR are having problems with rolling stock partly due to the state swt left them in...
I see the obvious solution to all the Pompey line disatisfaction to whether they want 442's or 450's is to put the 444's back on the Pompey direct and via Eastleigh, and put the 442's back where they rightfully belong on the SWML.... to Poole and Weymouth. Problem solved!!!
I know that 2414 and 2422 had their jumper covers refitted before storage, and 2414 has since had them removed, but are there any plans to refit them, only at the moment you can clearly see the full yellow warning panel and around the hoses, but as seen before when in service they will have very...
From a very reliable source i'm informed the reason for the cab water ingress, is the removal of the front covers, and when units are either washed or just running in heavy rain the water gathers in the front recesses and just lays there, that't why SWT ensured when they had cover problems they...
in reply to previous thread, when the 442's were built by NSE for the Weymouth electrification extension they were tops numbered 24xx alongside their respective coach numbers on their driving coaches eg 2401 77382 was on the sides of the DTC which became a DTF
