    Cardiff to Edinburgh for the rugby - 6 hours + of drinking on the train or if counting sail rail Cardiff to Dublin via holyhead - almost 12 hours total journey time

    Llandaff station in Cardiff - about a mile north and on the other side of the river Taff to llandaff village. The railway here forms the boundary between llandaff North and Whitchurch.

    Fishguard to Aberystwyth - 60 od miles by road - so 1.5 hours at most or 7.5 hours on the train - via Swansea, Newport, Shrewsbury, and Machynlleth

    It should be easy enough but I think gaer junction is a single line onto the main eastbound line so would need to rearrange the lines into Newport from the west ( adj tunnels etc ) to make it work

    They would make sense, but I don't think there's space available in Newport station to stable the unit used, or paths to get it from the junction to the station in the first place

    Just be glad they let you on the platform - at cardiff central during millennium stadium events they have queues outside separated by destination, and only let the capacity of the train up to the platform when the train is ready

    Only problem is ferries arrive at 1130 and 1150 and the terminal is a fair way from the rail platform - even with the shuttle bus so ferry pax will still be on the 1238 ( done this trip a few times for the rugby In Dublin and sometimes it's been close for the 1238)
