    Class 730 LNR & WMR Delivery/test Updates

According to RTT it's usually the same pair on the return journey, but last Wednesday it looks like they swapped one of the two units.

    Class 730 LNR & WMR Delivery/test Updates

Yes, I'm intrigued too. I thought it was for maintenance purposes but it only stays at Soho for around 20 minutes and then the same units go back to Euston (5G99 and 5A99). Today it was 730005 + 730011. I see it stops at a few places for "staffing reasons". Perhaps it's a staff train. If so, how...

    Caledonian Sleeper

I think the power was off between Colwich and Stafford all day yesterday, but other trains were getting through via the West Midlands or Stoke-on-Trent. It's OK now. The 21:15 CS from Euston last night made it as far as Rugeley and turned back. I feel a bit sorry for the passengers...

    Non-Urgent TOPS Requests

Hi all Can anyone please identify the two class 20s that left Kidderminster SVR this morning? https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:R58819/2025-03-10/detailed It looks like they collected what appears to be a tamping machine from Rugby and are now towing it to Dollands Moor...

    Class 730 LNR & WMR Delivery/test Updates

There's one on its way to Rugby with no obvious return journey, so maybe it's going to be stabled at Rugby for a bit. Interestingly, RTT shows it as "Pathed as Class 730 EMU Planned for 110mph max" whereas most of the regular 730 test runs are pathed as Class 350...

    Class 730 LNR & WMR Delivery/test Updates

I'm guessing that this is the unit running around the West Midlands today on 2Q31-2Q39. If so, it's currently at Euston https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:K27149/2025-01-29/detailed

Liverpool Street former connection to Met Line..? How?

I can definitely recollect a journey on the Circle Line, possibly in the late 50s, when the tunnel entrance was visible. Perhaps it was just before the construction of the kitchen. I only saw it once, briefly while the train was passing, but the tunnel itself was well-lit and I could see it...

Yes, it saved time by diverting through Manchester as Reddish South was flooded. 3 units but don't know which numbers.

    J27 65894 location please (1969)

Thank you for the very helpful comments. It was indeed Pelaw. The closest row of 4 houses in the first picture are still there and can be identified on Google street View. Thanks for confirmation of the date. According to "preservedbritishsteamlocomotives.com", it "steamed through Newcastle...

    J27 65894 location please (1969)

Hi. I'm trying to pinpoint the location of 65894 in these pictures (taken by me). I have scanned them from colour slides, so the quality isn't perfect. The date was 11th April 1969 (or possibly one day either side). I understand that this may have been the day this loco went to Thornaby via...

WMR Class 196 Build and Implementation

196008 on test/training run between Tyseley and Nuneaton via Leamington Spa. Seen here today at Coventry Arena. This service ran yesterday and today. It may be the first time a class 196 has been up this line (unless you know different)...

Things you don't see in trains any longer

Yes, I remember that the wooden panels in the Hastings diesels had small plastic labels stating "Weathered sycamore". Perhaps these have survived in the preserved unit.

    Class 730 LNR & WMR Delivery/test Updates

730004+730024 were doing the Stafford-Nuneaton runs today. They have just returned to Oxley (saw this on the Bushbury Railcam). Therefore it was two other units that went to Bletchley today.

    Class 730 LNR & WMR Delivery/test Updates

If the one seen at Stafford was 024, then the one I saw at Coventry was not. The Stafford one is running to/from Nuneaton all day, as one of them did last week.

    Tender Locos and Pull-Push Trains

Thanks for the replies. I conclude that the instance to which I was referring (with the Q1) was not operating push-pull and that it must have used the up/down lines at Crowhust.

South London Line before London Overground

It's drifting off the original topic of this thread (sorry), but the first stock I remember on the ELL at New Cross was F stock, probably around 1960. These were the ones with oval cab windows.
