    Blackpool Tramway - Last Weekend

So when the tramway re-opens next year, how regularly can we expect the 'heritage' trams to be used? Gosh, it's years since I travelled on the tramway... :(

    What are you studying?

I'm studying History and Modern Languages (French)...not at University this year, as I'm on my Year Abroad. :)

    Isle of Wight steam railway

I can't vouch for operation on normal days, but during this year's spring gala, all services were operated by ex main-line locomotives, hauling the IOWSR's fantastic collection of vintage carriages (only the Bluebell offers a more impressive selection of veteran vehicles). I agree with what...

    Why oh why....

At this risk of derailing this thread slightly, I've noticed that there have been a good number of complaints from drivers of late about gangwayed units, and the draughts, leaks, and other problems these cause. While I understand that no amount of new technology or improved design can increase...

    What's Your Ringtone?

Generally on vibrate, but I sometimes set it to something I've recently seen (and enjoyed) at a concert - of late, bits and pieces of Mahler symphonies, currently the conclusion of the first movement of his first symphony.

Most unpopular loco or unit with enthusiasts

Indeed, having lived on the southern section of the WCML all my life, I am well acquainted with the ghastly 321s. They are noisy and cheap feeling, and deliver an alarming 'bang' from the doors whenever a train passes in the other direction. As you rightly say, the seats are appalling - narrow...

Which is your favourite NR branch line and why?

Difficult to argue with this one - it's a wonderful line.

Pendolinos give smoothes ride at 125mph and what is smoothest line for ride at 125mph

Indeed - Mk4s eclipse anything other domestic train at high speed, in my opinion. Pendolinos often jerk about somewhat alarmingly.

    Traxx in the UK

Why? :| The Mk4s are nowhere near life-expiry - why spend more than is necessary? Reliability issues lie with the locomotives, not the coaches.

    Oxford Tube

I would argue that on the fast services, the HSTs are better suited to the job than the Networker Turbos - even if these were longer and a little faster (for they can do 90 even now). A one hour (or more if the train is heading down the Cotswold Line) journey of nigh-on 70 miles where most of...

    Oxford Tube

The main problem with travelling from Oxford to London by rail for most people is the inconvenient siting of the railway station - not only is it on the wrong side of town for many, but as it's more-or-less in the centre of town, it's a nightmare to drive to. Consequently, many people currently...

    Guess the Station...

Indeed I did. :) Err...Goring is its twin, you say? How about Cholsey (though I'm not convinced by that one...)?

Our illustrious train is now doing 123mph through Hitchin - don't know what service (presumably heavily delayed) it's operating... :)

Quite - it could become 'the RailUK DVT'. :D
