There is an option that will cost you nil, but carries the highest time penalty, and that is the 405 bus from Croydon to Redhill - as it is a TfL bus route, any travelcard for any zone will be valid throughout. Doing so would put an extra 40-50 minutes on the journey, however.
Another suggestion would be to alight at West Hampstead, do the 5-6 minute walk down Iverson Road to Kilburn High Road and jump on a 16 or 332. The 332 goes to Paddington, but the 16 only goes as far as Edgware Road - though depending where you work it might only be a short walk from there. The...
It's a shame that the onus would have to be on Edmonton Green, but I suppose it's a given that any substantial improvements to Angel Road would rely on the proposed four-tracking on that line.
I agree with what you say about the socioeconomic leanings towards the bus - as well as being a bus...
I really do think that if Angel Road was given a better service, and was given better access options than off the top of that road, it would see more passengers. A clue can be seen in the 192 bus that shadows the line between Angel Road - Northumberland Park - Tottenham Hale, which has seen a...
A couple of thoughts..
Comprehensive service provision, where the operator is prepared to offer a service at 'loss making' times e.g. late evenings and outside shopping hours on Sundays. If people are able to make journeys and *know* there will be a bus to get them home, whatever the time, then...
I would certainly have liked to see how using PAYG on my rail replacement journey on FCC this afternoon would have worked out. It operated all stations via Enfield Chase to Alexandra Palace, then on to Turnpike Lane for tube connections, using the bus station to stand. Touch in at Gordon Hill...
Interesting seeing all these posts about the gradients south of New Cross Gate - I've noticed riding on the 319s that they go at it pretty hard on the down fasts, but didn't realise the inclines were as severe as that.
Yeah, I had a look at the timetable and you're right. 2tph of 4 cars all shacks south of Snorbans is a bit stingy on a route like that. Last time I used it on a Sunday was in summer though, so maybe numbers warrant 8 cars then or I just got lucky.
Why doesn't First Capital Connect run more than 1-2tph on the Enfield Chase line on Sundays? And 2tph round the Sutton loop? Because existing (TfL) infrastructure is in place to mop up the crowds from those areas, the TOCs can be lazy and leave them as is.
I hate the wait on the exposed...
Stephenson's of Essex run the 14 service from Southend to Shoebury approximately every 90 minutes - basically a semi-rural trundle linking the intermediate villages with the two built up areas at either end. But two journeys (4 on Sats) divert over the bridge to/start from Foulness Island, a MoD...
A couple of other examples where the Turbostars would have been maxed out frequently and consistently - on the ECML with Hull Trains, and on the MML under Midland Mainline.
Do any of the CrossCountry routes worked by 170s see any 100mph running?
I'm certain the stretch of the BML north of East Croydon is restricted to something well below 100 - something between 60 and 75 depending on the stretch, and the 455s pretty much match the faster stock timewise on fast London Bridge - East Croydon runs.
There was a time when South West Trains...
I'd think seriously about the wisdom of going on a public forum and openly admitting using your pass in this way along with details of your travel patterns. Oyster keeps a record of journeys made and stores it centrally, and London Underground does use that information along with CCTV to catch...
The NLL and WLL had guards in Silverlink/313 days, and the GOBLIN had guards that undertook conductor duties (in theory - with the train stopping every three minutes or so it was often difficult to get any ticket selling done before they needed to get back to the cab, especially with 150+ pax on...
I'm open to correction on whether all TfL passes are issued with this validity, but I have previously owned a TfL nominee oyster card and that was valid out to zone 9 and Watford Junction (not actually in any zone, but included as an outlying non-zone station for TfL ticketing purposes) in order...
Anyone have a PVR figure for Stagecoach's 192 in Manchester? Very high frequency, though relatively short so maybe not the contender it appears at first thought..
I used to travel on the route in my student days on the south coast, in the last years of the ubiquitous Stagecoach Alexander Olympian. Once away from the built up area of Portsmouth there's some good fast running as far as Havant, then some nice open country interspersed with villages as far as...
I'd hazard against taking a sample from 10:30am to be representative of the whole offpeak*. There are large chunks of inner London where public transport goes fairly quiet between the end of the morning peak and about lunchtime - less so in suburbia, where all the blue rinses go into the town...
I'd be interested to see if TfL/LOROL have the will to increase the off peak service any further in economic terms. Fares across the line are very low thanks to much of the service staying in zones 2 & 3 - especially outside peak hours, where a 15 mile journey can be done for £1.50. Couple that...
LO did a lot to improve the peak and daytime services - especially on Sundays, which was a pathetic 2tph until recently, but late evening services and first/last trains have remained largely the same. I don't understand why they feel obliged to have everything on it's way back to the depot by...
