    May 2026 timetable

Skips Lostock. Dead on arrival for me. I’ve been trying to lobby northern for an early Sunday start for six years.

Porterbrook Cl.769 'Flex' trains from 319s, initially for Northern

323 is three cars of 23m vs 319 having 4x20m. The difference isn't as much as you think.

Porterbrook Cl.769 'Flex' trains from 319s, initially for Northern

Those conductors deserve praise for being sensible. If they are doing it again and again without incident it seems they are usable.

    Northern Future fleet updates

There are other options if the funding is there. TFW 158s start going off lease next year. They could replace the 150s in the worst condition to buy more time.

New Edinburgh to Cardiff route could come into service in 2029 if plans are approved

Why would we give yet another primarily England route to a Welsh TOC? Cross-regions need to be overseen by UK-wide Department for Transport.

Avanti shenanigans at Preston again today

These things happen, it’s understandable. What we cannot tolerate is Avanti turning all services back at Preston. We do expect a minimal service to run up to whatever the last station is before the blockage that supports turning back.

Porterbrook Cl.769 'Flex' trains from 319s, initially for Northern

That is hilarious. Did something else have to come and rescue both of them?

Porterbrook Cl.769 'Flex' trains from 319s, initially for Northern

We can most often if you like to highlight the near-daily problems? E.g. the last four return journeys I have done to/from Moses Gate has been a single 150. That does not match up the supposed six of eight diagrams being 769s. The rail industry rightly makes a big deal out of the golden...

'Ardwick Blockade' - February 2026 (timetable alteration updates)

Presumably Oxford Road will be rammed with terminating services. Will we see some rare Platform 1 use?

Porterbrook Cl.769 'Flex' trains from 319s, initially for Northern

There has been a lot of short forming recently. Today is just worse than usual. If availability is above four I don't people flag it any more. TfW is a timely mention. They have 158s going off lease next year. A very suitable replacement (already cleared to Southport/all Wigan/Manchester crews...

'Ardwick Blockade' - February 2026 (timetable alteration updates)

Does anyone know if the Knutsford services turn back at Stockport like they normally do at certain times of the day?

Porterbrook Cl.769 'Flex' trains from 319s, initially for Northern

The Spring Branch team do overnight maintenance on the 769s. What work does that work actually consist of?

Porterbrook Cl.769 'Flex' trains from 319s, initially for Northern

TFW 158s are going off-lease from next year. All 769 trained crews at Wigan/Victoria are already 158 trained and 158 already route cleared through to Southport. Could be a relatively simple rollout no? Northern should not have to be doing this so many years in but the 769 project clearly isn’t...

TPE stabling overnight at Saltburn on Saturday into Sunday?

The cost of those taxis is almost certainly less than the cost of fuel/path back to a depot no? The unit is fully shut down presumably no? So it’s not bothering locals.

Porterbrook Cl.769 'Flex' trains from 319s, initially for Northern

Do have Northern access to ten 769s now? If reliable enough could eight out daily cover all the Westhoughton diagrams?

    Post GBR: Management of stations

That’s another matter but it could be argued that these routes in England would function well as part of Northern to improve its finances. Welsh rail being loss-making it none of the English’s business.

    Post GBR: Management of stations

Shrewsbury and Chester rail improvements should not be in the hands of a 3rd party Parliament/Government. GBR is meant to be a British wide organisation no? Leaving TfW to take care of inside Wales is respecting Welsh autonomy. The harsher view would GBR absorbs TfW in its entirety to achieve...

    Post GBR: Management of stations

The day-to-day running of English stations should not be for organization that is primarily accountable to the Welsh Parliament. A Lockerbie situation is needed. GBR manages all stations in England at a minimum. TFW continues to provide services inside England where it is sensible to do so.

    Post GBR: Management of stations

Have we heard any detail regarding the management of stations in the GBR era. Would this be an opportunity for all stations in England to owned and operated by GBR? Obviously exceptions for stations already owned by 3rd parties.

Carmont inquiry to start in January

“…These included control room capability…” Finally some focus on this. All the previous focus on somewhat poor drainage so far and almost no one talking about why the HST was travelling at line speed in an area where they knew landslides were occurring.
