Exactly where I'm at. I'd take a first gen DMU over a steam engine any day. I have been on steam hauled trains in preservation of course. They're certainly interesting, but I have no nostalgia for them.

Hull has plenty of disused platforms used to stable stock. Platform 1 was recently rebuilt and reinstated. The others would require similar.

Problem with going through more populated places is that you get more slower stopping trains getting in the way.

Amendment to my previous post. Lincoln's actually lost 3 platforms. The original 1 and 2, plus what I assume was platform 8, which is now the overgrown platform at the furthest end of the station.

Lincoln lost original platforms 1 & 2. Huddersfield lost 3 and 7.

Woodhead on LNER teaks pulled by an EM2. I'd also like to sample the 506s and then on the east side of the Pennines take a class 114.

What about when Virgin ran the 47s and MK2 on XC routes up until about 2001/2? They only had the loco on the front, so I guess they either ran round at the terminus or they had another loco put on the back and the one on the front detached, not sure which. I only ever saw them passing through...

The 101s were fantastic on the Hope Valley line, much better than the Pacers.

There's the via Rotherham service too, usually 3 car 150s. Always seats available.

If going from Penistone to Manchester, I'll drive to Glossop and catch the train from there rather than use Standedge or the Hope Valley. I don't use TPE.

Not to mention the public transport workers themselves. How do the bus drivers and rail staff get to work? All wait for the first bus or train always worked by the staff that live near the depot?

I can't speak for the WCML overheads, but the Hadfield route overheads look very rusty in places.
