Locations of Permit To Travel Machines?

Ah that explains it! I knew I'd never seen them on the Penistone or Hallam/Dearne lines. I hadn't been on the Airedale lines at that point.

Locations of Permit To Travel Machines?

I didn't know these were a thing! I don't recall ever seeing these in South Yorkshire. An earlier post alluded to some West Yorkshire stations having them. I don't recall seeing them in the late 90s/early 2000s, maybe they disappeared long before this?

Sheffield Supertram & Tram Train news

A 15 minute frequency would be an amazing improvement over the hourly (in)-frequency my bus route has! I always look at the vast number of 52s and 120s and think how amazing it would be if the 57 ran like that!

    Northern Connect

In the early 2000s there were no expresses via Barnsley. There were two stoppers; one went from Sheffield to Leeds via Castleford, the other from Sheffield to Wakefield Kirkgate. Things certainly have improved!

Class 77 / EM2 Liveries And Consists On The Woodhead Route - What Was Typical?

There's a few photos in the E.M. Johnson books of electrics in BR black hauling Gresley coaches still in teak livery.

Sheffield Supertram & Tram Train news

Hard to police if the tram is conductor-less. XL bully dogs are illegal but I suspect people still walk around with them quite openly. I personally wouldn't be that confident identifying dog breeds if I was the conductor on the tram, a dog's a dog to me.

Distant view of loco passing through town?

Perhaps the viaduct is no longer exant? Plenty of closed routes.

Distant view of loco passing through town?

It does have a West Yorkshire feeling about it. Halifax/Huddersfield kind of vibes. Only the mills are missing.

New units for Northern - shortlist of manufacturers

I wish people would stop trying to get rid of the 170s, they're the best trains Northern have by a long chalk.

Sheffield Supertram & Tram Train news

Sheffield's transport system is a mess, totally run into the ground. I switched to car. I got fed up of missing buses, missing trams etc., long diversions around every estate. The car is quicker and easier. If they make it impossible to get into Sheffield by car, I'll go elsewhere, Barnsley or...

Deployment of Northern's new units and Class 195/331 cascade

Sheffield to either Adwick/York/Cleethorpes would be fine with 2 car. Same goes for Doncaster to Scunthorpe. The Penistone line outside of the peaks would be okay 2 car. Everything else should be three car minimum... Nottingham/Lincoln/Scarborough for example.

New units for Northern - shortlist of manufacturers

South Yorkshire is nearly all two car, except for the 170s and 150/0s. Four cars only come out to play on Sundays.

Regional Railways GMPTE Livery in Yorkshire?

I'm assuming the Strathclyde ones were back in 101 days.

Regional Railways GMPTE Livery in Yorkshire?

Although slightly OT to the original question, I also remember Tyne and Wear liveried 142s in Huddersfield as well.

Trivia: Ideas and concepts that didn't work out

I wasn't alluding to their success, more to the fact they were supposed to be a short term, stop gap. They turned out to be very long term. I would have preferred them fully refurbishing more of the better quality first gen DMUs (101s) and not bothering with the pacers at all.

Regional Railways GMPTE Livery in Yorkshire?

I definitely travelled on 142s in this livery out of Sheffield to Manchester up until 2003. They also used to work Man Vic to Wakefield Westgate via Huddersfield and Kirkgate. Saw them many times at Huddersfield.

Trivia: Ideas and concepts that didn't work out

Pacers as a short term stop-gap. They went on to have longer careers than some of the DMUs they replaced.

No services between Sheffield and Nottingham

Manchester to Chesterfield via Sheffield and the Old Road will be pathing issues. Via Dore Curve, neither crews sign it.
