There was plenty of Rail Blue stock elsewhere in the country beyond 1991! Many first gen DMUs lingered in Blue until around 1992/3, the West Midlands still had some into 1994. The EMUs in Blue lasted even longer, I'm sure there were 304s around in 1995/6 in Blue Grey, I think some of the 508s...
It does but how do you define the main station for the town? Easy enough to say Manchester Piccadilly is the main station there. What about Wakefield though?
I've been thinking about this. It's pretty straight forward if a town/city has one station, however, if there are multiple main stations of similar importance (say Bradford or Wakefield) should they not be combined for the purposes of this question?
So Wakefield would be thus divided by five...
Plenty of 1980s built stations in West Yorkshire with narrow platforms.
The now closed Attercliffe Road station just north of Sheffield looks to have had very narrow platforms.
Doncaster is horrendous. I have to use my phone these days to find the info I need and hope it's still accurate. Like I stated earlier, I'm not opposed at all to sign language display screens, in fact I think they're a good thing. But there really needs to be an overall view board that gives all...
So if I was to state on here some nonsense such as:
Class 105 Cravens units currently operate the Sheffield to Carlisle direct service for Transpennine Express, except on Wednesdays when it covered by a 323 unit.
This could turn up as an actual answer on an AI search? If so, that's worrying.
I personally quite like the idea of sign language boards.
What I would wish for though, is an extra board that simply lists all the trains departing the station for the next hour. That way, when changing trains at say Doncaster, I don't have to wait through three pages of signing for the small...
I'll second Nottingham, it has a wonderful architecture, one could easily imagine a steam train pulling in. Nottingham itself though, I'm not keen on.
Lincoln station is quaint.
What about a simple LDS - CFD - LDS shuttle? XX:32 off Leeds, arrive CFD for XX:52, off CFD at XX:04 and back to LDS. One unit required.
The Hallam stopper could be re-timed (would have to be anyway due to missing CFD) to make it better spaced from the following express service.
I'd love a small display screen mounted to the roof of my car (like a taxi sign would be) that you could press a button and it flashes, so when they look in their mirror they can see it saying "It's 30mph" or whatever the speed for the road is.
