Great British Railways: Station identity and livery unveiling (09/12/25)

Can't wait to see it on a 150. It's really not great is it? I don't like red as a colour scheme. I don't mind the blue so much.

Difference between the terms "Guard" and "Conductor"?

I always assume they are managing the train, i.e. the doors, the PA systems, the boarding and alighting passengers etc. I don't automatically think that they have to manage other staff. Still I prefer conductor/guard.

Difference between the terms "Guard" and "Conductor"?

Train Captain sounds ridiculous. It sounds like they work for Starfleet! I don't like the term Train Manager. I guess it makes sense, but it smacks of trying to sound like an airline. Conductor or guard sound much better to me.

Trivia : Railway questions you were afraid of asking

Why are stored demics called a Christmas tree? Is it because it provides 'presents', i.e. spare parts for other trains, or is it because it's full of faults and lights up like a Christmas tree? I've often wondered.

    BR multiple unit numbering conventions

Possibly, or they were left vacant for heritage stock. The 101s took many of the 6xx series when refurbished.

Huddersfield popped straight into my head.

Should we have a universal ID card?

Not at all. Gold is money, everything else is credit, including fiat. But we're off topic here. My concerns about CBDC is what happens if you get debanked? It's happened to plenty of people. At least with cash there's alternatives. When it comes to finances diversity is key. You should never...

Should we have a universal ID card?

Sometimes data loss isn't even deliberate. Didn't someone leave a laptop at a bus stop once?

    Bleakest UK Station (Trivia)

Leeds - everything in the train shed is so grey. It's like being stood inside a gloomy, overcast day. It's always cold too.

Should we have a universal ID card?
