Would anyone be able to tell me what operated the following services today?
1D59 1119 Birmingham New Street to Nottingham
1F23 1026 London St Pancras to Sheffield
Thanks in advance!
From the LNE Timetable Planning Rules, the standard minimum times for turnaround are as follows:
DMU: 4 minutes
EMU: London Suburban 6 minutes
EMU: 4 minutes
HST / Loco Hauled: 35 minutes
But there are major variations at different stations. Leeds, for example, says the following.
HST to/from...
Suggests the proposed trains will be extensions of Euston - Birmingham / Wolverhampton services;
The 0639 ex-Shrewsbury would seem to fit into being an extension of the 0725 Wolverhampton to Euston (1R21), though would presumably require the 0633 from Shrewsbury (0530 from Chester - 1G30) to be...
Interesting that they're even apparently providing two bus connections through to / from Pwllheli to the Fridays Only 2000 arrival /2010 departure at Barmouth - when that's a train it terminates at Barmouth!
On a positive note, trains started running again on the Cambrian Coast Line between Machynlleth and Barmouth this morning; this is the new timetable for replacement buses between Barmouth and Pwllheli...
It appears that for a week in February (specifically Monday 17th to Friday 21st), there is some sort of blockade between Birmingham New Street and Water Orton, which leads to some interesting diversions;
Cross Country long-distance services are diverted via the Cross City line, leaving New...
As of today, there's now a generally hourly through London - West Midlands - Scotland service, which is headcoded 9Mxx or 9Sxx to avoid confusion with the services via the Trent Valley, which run as 1Mxx or 1Sxx.
HTH :)
I have heard there was some degree of confusion a few years back when Chester - Birmingham services were numbered in the same 1Gxx series as London - Birmingham expresses, and occasionally two identically headcoded trains arrived at Birmingham New Street from different directions at the same time...
I would describe the last two numbers as simply an identifying number:
1S35 follows 1S31 (0600 Birmingham New Street to Glasgow Central) and 1S33 (0703 Birmingham New Street to Edinburgh) beyond Birmingham - they'll be numbered 1S3x to avoid confusion with other services; 1S05, for example, is...
Perhaps slightly biased, but every so often I'm staggered by the views from Pont Croesor (on the Welsh Highland Railway) and Tanygrisiau (on the Ffestiniog)...

I see it more as a choice between:
Pay £100 for travel any company on any train.
Pay £10 for travel on a specified train.
With the advance fare you accept the inflexibility of having to catch the specified train but if the specified train is cancelled the railway has a responsibility to get...
Any of these itineraries would work on Thursdays until the end of October;
0750 Manchester Piccadilly to Llandudno Junction 0943
1028 Llandudno Junction to Blaenau Ffestiniog 1130
1150 Blaenau Ffestiniog to Porthmadog Harbour 1300
Walk Porthmadog Harbour to Porthmadog (15 mins)
1402 Porthmadog...
With the Penzance - London sleeper not running tonight (well, being replaced with an HST), once the London - Penzance sleeper arrives tomorrow there'll be two sets of coaches at Penzance and none in London, so in order for the London - Penzance sleeper to run tomorrow, one of the trains will...
Some kind of error / deliberate joke for the last train to depart on the Coventry line before the concourse switch over at New Street tonight maybe? :)
I am indeed :) Though I seem to get given more days on the Ffestiniog than the Welsh Highland whenever I go up there!
I'm doing it slightly differently (it helps being on a gap year before university!), going up for 1-2 weeks at a time every month or so, I've only been doing it since late...
I volunteer on the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways, and our loco crews and operations staff are fairly separate (being based either side of the Cob would be part of the reason!).
I'm a trainee guard for the operations department - I've gone straight into that from being a buffet steward...
