My Work Experience at Network Rail

Hi, This is a brief report of some of the more interesting parts of my work experience with Network Rail Train Planning in Birmingham – a full report will follow... On Tuesday, I got a Cab Ride with CrossCountry Trains, from Birmingham New Street to Bristol Temple Meads and return. Accompanied...

    VT 90 Set...

    XC Seat Reservation

I'm afraid Voyagers/Super Voyagers have silly lettering - the 1230 from Bristol is due a Voyager as part of the 0828 from Penzance. A is First Class B is Standard (Super Voyagers Only) C is Standard (always there) D is Standard (always there and used to have the Shop) E has never existed...

Nuneaton to London Euston, next Saturday, 20th June

I'd advise you catch the 1243, just to allow for any possible eventualities. :D From my experience, they either don't close the gates at Euston, or close them about 30 seconds - 1 minute before the train leaves. To get to the underground at Euston, walk to the end of the platform, out onto...

Why all the violence against the BNP?

I was referring to the kind of image portrayed in said newspapers, many migrants have integrated fully into British society. I notice nobody complains about people emigrating - surely this means, for example, in Spain, there are whole areas where British people live, and don't conform...

Why all the violence against the BNP?

I am completely against the BNP, and whilst I can see the viewpoint of some people regarding the fact white British people are forced to pay respect to other cultures, but not the other way around, a lot of these stories are kicked up by the media (one newspaper, rhymes with Maily Dail, springs...

    Food near Plymouth Station?

Thanks for the help - in the end we got Pizza Hut to deliver to Plymouth train station (which I was suprised about...). :D

    Mystery Reading

I would imagine you went to Reading West Junction (on the Bristol line), then reverse back to Reading West via the Reading West Curve, as matt said. Could have been a defect from the front power car that caused it. Hope that Helps :)

    Food near Plymouth Station?

Thanks for the info - if we're on time I might chance it and run into town, depending on what the others I'm with think. On a side note, what are CrossCountry and FGW like at food from their buffet - I'm on HSTs on both (if that makes a difference)?

    Food near Plymouth Station?

Hiya, I will be travelling to Penzance tomorrow, but I've got a change at Plymouth for about half an hour - what kind of food can you get in and around the station? Is there something like a McDonalds or a Burger King on the concourse? Thanks in advance, David

    HST's-Past, Present or Future?

I've liked HSTs since I can remember, and I try to plan any trips from Birmingham - South West/North East around XC's timetable. However, I think it does depend on which refurbishment you get - whilst not strictly HSTs, I thought the Virgin West Coast one was best (especially in 1st), Virgin...

    Plastic cheap units

I must say, I think the 175s/180s are very very good units (except for the reliability issues) - they have large windows, a good ratio of airline to table seats, clear information screens, seats which line up with the windows and very effective air conditioning. I travelled on a 3-car 175...

    Phil Sayer's announcements

Having been on a Class 175, I can confirm she still says 'Llandidnor' and that also appears on the screens on board. I like the sarcasm :P

Does anyone know for sure if Wrexham & Shropshire accept the West Mids Day Ranger?

Yep, they accept (at least they did when I used one). They use Class 67s, old Virgin Trains (yet to be refurbished) Mk3s (including some declassified First Class ones - very nice), and DVTs. :D

    FGW full timetable book

After sending FGW a message on their customer services page, I recieved one of the new timetable booklets in the post today (free!), and very good it is too. Still says £2.50 on the front though... :D

    Old Avantix Traveller

I'm not really sure - Ideally I'd like the first version, just to have a look at the changes we've been put through...

    Old Avantix Traveller

Hi, This might sound like a bit of an odd query, but does anyone have an old version of Avantix Traveller from around 1999-2000, not really sure what number it would be... Thanks in advance, David

    WSMR FirstClass

When I went on a Saturday service in February (from Tame Bridge to Wrexham and return), the first class service was excellent! The food quality is also very good, and there are 24 seats in First Class on W&S, so hopefully you should be fine. :D

    stuff in Doncaster works

It does at the moment, but it normally runs the FO 1846 Euston - Preston, and then whatever else is required. I'm looking forward to seeing the refurbished Mk3s too. :)

    Grand Central Discussion

Was having a look at part of the NRT (Table 81 in fact), and it seems GC have branched out somewhat, with the introduction of the following train: Holyhead 1750 Bangor 1820 Llandudno Junction 1838 Colwyn Bay 1846 Rhyl 1857 Flint 1915 Chester 1933 1941 Cardiff Central 2243 There is no...
