TfW trying again with 756001 on a Bargoed to Barry Island diagram all day today
https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:L66714/2026-04-13/detailed#allox_id=0
It's a pretty good day for the Flirts on the Valleys today, all diagrammed units seem to be out, with 150s on just Rhymney to...
That's because powers & funding for rail infrastructure is not devolved to Welsh Government, and unless and until it is, any projects proposed by Welsh Govt & TfW will be subject to agreement and funding from UK Government, which has repeatedly shown under both Labour and Conservative UK...
If this is all true, then of course it's been covered up, as we have an election looming, and the governing party is publicly in denial about the scale of their predicted losses.
Hopefully the new Welsh Government will be honest about the scale of the problems with the 398s, especially as if...
2tph on the VoG line, Barry to Bridgend is a new commitment, as that's been indefinitely dropped by TfW and Welsh Government.
Electrification and tram-trains to Penarth is new as well.
But most of it was in TfW's recent ambitions report.
If rail infrastructure through NR/GBR was devolved to...
Plaid Cymru have published their manifesto and their wish list / ambitions for the rail network in Wales.
These of course are all dependant on the next Welsh Government getting the funding from Westminister, as rail infrastructure is not devolved.
Commitments for south Wales include:
Plaid's...
Is there any truth to the rumours that after the timetable change in May, all of the remaining 150s will be put on the Treherbert / Aberdare / Merthyr lines to allow the 756s & 231s to move on to their final routes and free up the 197s?
There's no indication of the 398s entering passenger...
If, even at this stage, there are still very limited 398 testing & crew training runs happening, it's very concerning. It's almost as if the spin & PR doesn't match the reality......
Apologies, as Bill has confirmed, it's an acronym that's unofficially used to describe the Treherbert, Aberdare & Merthyr lines through Pontypridd.

Thanks
With the suggestion that TfW's remaining 150s will be focused on the Treherbert, Aberdare and Merthyr lines from the timetable change on 17/18 May, how many 150s do TfW have left and when are the remaining 150s likely to go off lease / for scrap?
I may be extremely cynical, but I can't help but think the video was put out now, before restrictions come in on what TfW can put on social media during the election period.
Thanks for this update.
Yesterday, TfW social media shared a video asking passengers on the Pontypridd- Treherbert line what they thought of their new trains. Maybe it was the wrong question.
How far along is mainline crew training on 231s and Rhymney crew training on 756s? Will 150s be back on...
What's so frustrating about this "£14 billion "committment" to invest in Welsh railways" is that you know, literally on 8 May, it'll be quietly dropped and when questioned on it, UK Government ministers will just say it was never a full commitment and only £445 million over 10 years was ever...
TfW were very clever with the wording of the press release of the completion of electrification of 100% of the CVL on Monday. The headline made it sound like the entire network is now fully electrified, but the notes to editors at the bottom states:
So is Cardiff Bay still not yet live...
I don't think this has been confirmed anywhere, but is the removal of the Pontypridd to Cardiff Bay service so 398s can use the paths for driver training & testing ahead of the May TT change?
You're not wrong, the concept of 'turn up and go' shouldn't just be an advantage for able bodied people, people with limited mobility deserve that as well.
For the first time in her life, my mum, who relies on a wheelchair or mobility scooter, feels that she can confidently use the train on the...
Well a 150 does has similar capacity to a 398......in fact I think a 150 has more seating capacity than a 398.....so in terms of capacity, it's preparing passengers for what to expect from the 398s......
Given that the Core Valley Lines is devolved infrastructure, Welsh Government should be getting Barnett consequential funding from UK Government for it's ongoing maintenance. If it's not then that should absolutely feature in the discourse of the upcoming election (and any further discussion of...
There's a daily early morning passenger service, 0525 Barry Island to Caerphilly, that has been running as a 3 car 756 since at least December.
It then goes onto the Penarth - Caerphilly - Coryton circuit.
