Unless you can drive to it, Cogan is an awful station to use. For people living in Llandough it's their nearest station, but you need to be fit enough to manage the walk uphill to get home. And the walk along the very narrow pavement over the road bridge and up Cogan hill can feel unsafe when...
Geoff Marshall has today released a members only YouTube video of him riding the 398s, as well as there being plenty of other YT videos by other people on them, but still not a peep out of TfW to officially acknowledge these are now in passenger service, which after years of hype by them, is...
TfW must be utterly desperate to get the 398s into passenger service by introducing them during a Red weather warning extreme heatwave. After all this time, delaying by another week surely wouldn't make much difference?
TfW obviously think the risk of bad publicity of one breaking down somewhere...
Heatwaves in Britain are no longer rare events. Every summer we have at least one heatwave, and those heatwaves are getting hotter and longer. So new trains absolutely should have air conditioning that can handle hotter temperatures.
The new Deputy Minister for Transport has already ruled out a new road to the south of Newport (for example, the previous 'black route')
Whatever happens with the M4, there's no denying the fact that the east of Cardiff and Newport are extremely poorly served by rail. The buses out to...
This ^^^^^^
I find it extremely difficult to believe that having a revenue inspector on every train, whose sole purpose is to check and sell tickets and assist passengers, is more expensive than a guard / conductor with full safety critical competency (and so much increased pay), who has to rush...
Any supposed rollout date for the 398s needs to be taken with several buckets of salt. In February, the rollout date was "later this spring". As I predicted at the time, that has now changed to "later this summer"..........
It looks like, apart from main stations like Queen Street and Pontypridd, it could be 1 single, unisex toilet at the stations with toilets. There could be a long wait at some stations on the last train of the night
But those 153s can't be used on the Pontypridd lines, and we've been told that Valleys crews competency on the 153s has expired as well to use them on the Rhymney line.
I don't believe the 398s will be binned as there's no alternative, they will have to be made to work eventually. But they are...
TfW are obviously outwardly confident that the entire 398 fleet will be in daily passenger service by December. If that doesn't happen, what's the alternative?
Presumably mainline want the 231s now but still can't have them, and presumably 150s will continue to be withdrawn when their allowed...
The toilet issue has been done to death on here, but for someone with a bladder or bowel condition, holding on 20 minutes for the next toilet can actually be a very long time, especially if you have a condition that means you can need the toilet urgently, without much warning, and can't hold on...
Unless this is incorrect reporting, the RAIL article states
I thought that the VoG line will be getting 756s, hence why there has been late night testing of 756s on the VoG in recent months?
There's only 11 x 231s, keeping some on Rhymney - Bridgend (currently 4 diagrams at 1tph) won't leave...
All of TfW's 150s had the work done and are PRM compliant.
There might have been exemptions given as the PRM work on the 150s didn't commence until 2018, but eventually they were all done.
I think you might be getting the 150s mixed up with the Pacers, that were given exemptions until May 2021...
Well Wales is withdrawing it's 150s, and has plans to withdraw it's 158s, leaving just it's 153s longer term.
ScotRail, GWR and Northern just seem to be soldiering on with their 15x fleets for the foreseeable future......
So trains that are now 40 years old are being given extensions for another 6/7 years, with no mention of planning for their replacements?
Is there any other country in Europe that is still using 40+ year old DMUs in daily passenger service?
