Driver refusing request to call at additional stations - is this really a thing?

If I’m being brought to a stand at a red platform signal where I’m not booked to call I will normally stop just before the station unless in doing so blocks some points that may need to be used

Driver refusing request to call at additional stations - is this really a thing?

Had a not to stop order for a station where there was reported wind damage to the station roof only to be signalled into the station platform under flashing yellows, with the platform signal clearing on entering platform and passengers on platform, I didn’t stop as last instruction was not to...

CrossCountry coronavirus timetable - skipped stops

Don’t think the figures are correct, pre covid nowhere near as many RD’s as suggested, in fact outside of summer leave period there may have been a couple at some depots (exc Birmingham). Dft specify timetable and have blocked the Rest Day agreement that ended in November, XC trains that are...

    Passengers thanking Drivers

Often used to get a thank you pre Covid when terminating in bays at Newcastle or at Edinburgh when passengers have to walk past cab, always reply and smile. Remember years ago getting an envelope from the Train Manager addressed to Mr Driver at Newcastle that had a handwritten kids letter...

Effects of COVID absences on signalling staff

Worked a XC which was held at Leeds due to signaller taking break, it must have been early to mid last year

No, if your moved from a booked turn they can only force an hours overtime but like I said that could be applied to numerous drivers. You can also be affected by this every day of your week. This agreement has been agreed for years and signed by both parties, only now after many warnings has it...

Cross Country Service Reductions and Alterations, 28-11-2021 onwards

Your book on time won’t change, you will be told when booking on your doing something different and may finish later than booked, but this could have an effect on numerous drivers at different depots to cover part or all of the job you should have been on. as stated before you could be on a 5...

Cross Country Service Reductions and Alterations, 28-11-2021 onwards

Take it your talking about Sundays, in my 20 years at XC I don’t think drivers have ever had a dispute about Sundays, as stated before we are contracted to work our booked ones, you can get someone else to work it or put in a not available and if it can be covered by a spare man you do get the...

Cross Country Service Reductions and Alterations, 28-11-2021 onwards

Tried to put it a simple as I could but it comes down to there is an agreement in place during rest day working which is within the drivers terms and conditions which was not being adhered too so the agreement was not renewed. Drivers are expected to work to their t and c’s and we all do, many...

Cross Country Service Reductions and Alterations, 28-11-2021 onwards

Ok will try to make it simple, depot A has an uncovered turn, when the rest day agreement is in place if it cannot be covered by spare drivers at other depots (route and traction competent) it would go to a rest day volunteer at depot A, if as now there is no agreement in place job would be...

Ok, so you only count being at work when a driver is actually in the cab, so office based training or being spare at the depot doesn’t count. You say you have a good understanding of the railway but you comments don’t back this up. We like most if not all employees have a legal right to paid...

Cross Country Service Reductions and Alterations, 28-11-2021 onwards

You seem to have an issue with what a driver gets paid, the bench mark to look at is the freight drivers as their companies have to still make a profit or they go out of business. Yes pay went up after privatisation as drivers became a commodity that was in need but expensive to train so...

Cross Country Service Reductions and Alterations, 28-11-2021 onwards

No, there was no renegotiation, not asking for more money, just that the laid down agreements within the rest day agreement were adhered to correctly.

Cross Country Service Reductions and Alterations, 28-11-2021 onwards

Some drivers will have retired, training delayed due to COVID, messroom capacity is in line with industry practice. remember what happened to GWR not that long ago when COVID hit at a depot and spread like wildfire.

Cross Country Service Reductions and Alterations, 28-11-2021 onwards

The agreement normally does roll over but there have been lots of occasions lately when the rostering department have not adhered to the agreement even after it was brought up at meetings between ASLEF and the company. The outcome being an extension was not granted.

Cross Country Service Reductions and Alterations, 28-11-2021 onwards

Some of our diagrams have been reduced in length due to COVID, mess room capacity at various locations, so a 50% reduction in train service does not equate to 50% less drivers. No XC does not expect me to work 7 days a week but does expect me to work my booked days and Sundays I am rostered for...

Cross Country Service Reductions and Alterations, 28-11-2021 onwards

You still don’t get it, we are turning up, we are working our rostered shifts, the drivers who are booked to work today will have turned up. It is NOT the workforce who have cut the service. No it is not ideal that trains will run short formed but again this is not our fault, XC has not had an...

Cross Country Service Reductions and Alterations, 28-11-2021 onwards

What’s the point of having an agreement if the company does not abide by it, should ASLEF just sign it and let the company break it when it wants. If yes, will that mean on the Sundays that I am booked to work which are not part of my contract I can just not turn up.

Cross Country Service Reductions and Alterations, 28-11-2021 onwards

No, it’s an agreement that is not being renewed, IT IS NOT INDUSTRIAL ACTION, and you forgot to mention that THE COMPANY HAVE BROKEN THE TERMS OF THE AGREEMENT MANY TIMES

Cross Country Service Reductions and Alterations, 28-11-2021 onwards

Actions, what actions, we as drivers are working our contracted hours. Also if I am on a 5 hour diagram And my train is late I am obliged by my terms and conditions of work to wait for it up to our maximum shift length of 10 hours so even if I have something planned, then that has to be missed...
