Daily sheets are prepared with drv turns cancelled, with drvs allocated to man the planned strike day service (all within rostering agreements eg driver could be on a 5hr turn cancelled, becomes daily spare available to be marked to a turn upto 10 hrs).
As MW has stated, if they put the offer out to the members and it was rejected they would come back with 4.01%, that needs put to members and so on. Take it as read that with the numbers returned in ballots drvs would not accept the offer.
ASLEF are within their rights to react to the company using MSL, they have given the required notice for the extra days strikes. It is still about pay and t&c’s.
Result of the poor industrial relations with plenty of XC drivers not working their days off. Pre the end of last RDW agreement Nov 20 don’t think this poor availability would have happened. After over 18 months in dispute and no pay increase in nearly 5 years it’s not surprising that any good...
Had this exact thing happen about 10 years ago. Turned set at Newcastle (Glasgow bound) next day asked by DTM who authorised me to do it. He said control had checked weather forecast and no sign of rain told him couldn’t see out for dead flies. Not just there in case of rain.
Like the unions have done in Scotland and Wales, some t&c’s”s have changed by agreement not a wholesale firestorm
