Well, if they sell trains at full or near capacity, I assume they make money. If the odd ones make a small loss, then maybe the bigger picture breaks even, or more likely, makes profit.
LSL cancel trains that have low bookings, so they must operate commercially. Probably a rich owner helps with...
No I am not. I am suggesting that maybe one option could.be a strategic pool of stock to relieve busy routes, at busy times. This stock could be used in downtime.
The state want a reliable, value for money service - with a bit of entrepreneurial, open-minded thinking, it could work. Money could...
Heaven forbid the state railway could operate a GBR charter department. There would be a thought! A fleet of locos and carriages actually there for people.to enjoy themselves from.
I know it would never happen, but why not? Merrymakers reincarnated!
I do hope we are not on the verge of...
Yes, I gathered as much. Yesterday's experience only confirms this. Shambolic puts it mildly....
I wonder if RTC will have similar thoughts? Would they be big enough to purchase their own stock, get them maintained somewhere and employ their own staff? I don't know much about them.
Indeed, a...
A few thoughts about the future of railtours - for enthusiasts and day-trippers alike. It's a debate that is ongoing, but a recent fiasco sparked the thoughts again.
A sorry tale from the penultimate Pathfinder excursion on Saturday 22nd November - The Chester Christmas Explorer and Manchester...
Shambolic. Got a refund and now have no choice but drive. Travel tomorrow is not an option. I have to work at 0600 in Oxford! Hope the motorway is quiet. Lol. I know the answer to that already.
Good job I enjoy the railway and understand it and the fragmented mess it is. If I were a potential...
Partly for this section and/or ticket advice.
I have an off-peak, open return, starting today - Stafford to Oxford. Would I get a full refund, if I cancel and drive?
What a pain - M6 on a Friday night!

How likely is the 1821 from Stafford to run? Will the inward bound working into...
Does anybody know what is happening in the Stafford area please? I need to get from Stafford to Oxford and at least the next two direct trains are cancelled.
Are all lines blocked or could I make my way there with some changes, avoiding the problem?
Or should I get the car keys out and drive.....
Notice they are using different caterers too. Gravy Train Catering were their provider weren't they? Saying The Railway Diners now. All change for UKR - Eastern Rail Services seem to have taken over from Riviera (now WCR) too.
Great Central were going to run a series of the INTERCITY dining trains on occasional Saturday nights. Think a failed kitchen car stopped them and they never reappeared. Shame really.
I was pretty shocked.by the state of the Thameslink train I travelled on earlier this year. The inside of the train was covered in graffiti. The toilet was disgraceful - graffiti and vandalism.
Change in society? Fewer staff on trains? Little punishment for the crime? I don't know, but it makes...
So, this isn't the right to run channel tunnel services? Just the preferred user for a depot? Obvious positive in a bid to run international trains.
The other parties can still bid but just propose alternative depot facilities?.If Virgin don't get the right to run services, what happens to the...
I want to drag myself into the 21st century. I've got thousands of paper magazines and I really need to change.
I have annual subscription to two titles.
Does anybody just have e-magazines? What reader do you have?
How does it work? Do they get sent to you? (Sorry, I really haven't a clue!)...
