I've gotten the South London line a fair few times between South Bermondsey and Victoria late at night and never had the slightest issue on it (considering the crime rates of the areas it passes through no mean feat).

You get the X5 when you've become a student. It's cheap, but it makes Pacers feel like they should be pressed into service as sleepers, and the Victoria line at rush hour look quiet.

I'm not familiar with the ECML, but are there large sections where there aren't enough paths for commuter/regional trains because InterCity trains are eating up all the paths? If so then after HS2 I wouldn't blame anyone for introducing stops all over the ECML services.
