    Booking Office tickets (not TVM's)

In my experience, the old style (based on the British Rail APTIS design) seems to be used by most, if not all, train operating companies for what are non-standard tickets. As mentioned by Geeves these include excess tickets, rangers and rovers, plusbus tickets etc. I know the OP asked...

    Hope Valley Capacity Scheme updates

Whilst re-signalling schemes have reduced the number significantly over recent years, there are still plenty of manual boxes in operation around the country. For instance, a train travelling from Manchester Piccadilly to Sheffield via Stockport will come under the control of 12 lineside signal...

    Hull Trains HST

Hi all, does anyone have the diagrams for this week please?

    Manually operated crossings

There's Astley crossing between Patricroft and Newton le Willows which is still gated. It's somewhat unusual though in that, whilst the gates are locked/unlocked by the adjacent signal box, the crossing is user worked. So I suppose it's a kind of hybrid :D

    Hebden Bridge-Bradford signalbox closures

Ah I see, I didn't realise the loop had gone to colour lights but at least there are still one or two semaphores knocking about. Thank you both for the help locating it, I'll keep an eye out next time I go past! Some wonderful photos there, thanks for posting them.

    Hebden Bridge-Bradford signalbox closures

Doesn't Castleton still control some semaphores on the connection from the East Lancs Railway? When travelling through the area on a train I've always tried to locate Rochdale West but haven't been able to see it thus far! Is it situated away from the running lines?

Thanks for the quick reply :)

    Hebden Bridge-Bradford signalbox closures

Would I be correct in saying that the only remaining boxes between Hebden Bridge and Manchester are Rochdale, Castleton East and Vitriol Works?

    Keep The Train Clean!

I'm fairly certain that there is a bin at the bottom of the stairs between island platforms 14 and 13B, but that is the only one in the whole station that I've noticed! From what I remember, there were several throughout the station until a year or two ago at which point practically all of them...

    "New Celia" annoucements

Now that Clapham Junction and Guildford are Network Rail operated stations, I wonder if Phil/Celia announcements will be around longer there than at SWR stations?

New seat reservation displays on existing LNER trains

Indeed haha, I was glad to have managed a ride in an EMT coach :D Given the simplicity of fitting them I suppose it makes sense; let's hope the glue holds  I'm happy to hear the HST's are staying longer than I thought!

New seat reservation displays on existing LNER trains

As already mentioned on another thread, I also saw them in a Mark 3 buffet car! Surely its not the best investment considering they're supposed to leave the fleet in December?

    Mark 4 PIS

You're definitely not seeing things! I made a rare (for me!) trip in VTEC first class on an HST today and noticed these screens. The carriage was the buffet car. Also of note is the non-standard seating in this carriage, is this the case in all VTEC buffet cars? The other FC carriages appeared...

    EM Trains Grand National Services

Thank you both for the replies. Its a shame that a 222 hasn't run, but if it causes timetable issues then I suppose it is in the best interest of passengers to simply run an enhanced 158 service.

    EM Trains Grand National Services

Thanks for the info. As the services aren't being split at Nottingham, does this indicate that a 222 is not allocated? I'm not sure if class 222's are permitted to run between Nottingham and Norwich. If they cannot, it obviously means that they won't be forming the service to Liverpool.

    EM Trains Grand National Services

Thank you all for the replies, hopefully I'll be able to travel on one of the services suggested. If for some reason a 158 turns up instead, I wouldn't mind making a day trip to Liverpool anyway  Presumably the first class on the 222's is declassified?

    EM Trains Grand National Services

Hi all, I was just wondering if East Midlands Trains are strengthening any services with a Class 222 for the Grand National tomorrow. Unless I'm mistaken, I think they have been known to do this in previous years. Many thanks for any info!

Is closing slam-doors helpful for dispatch?

I once closed several of the doors on the ATW Manchester to North Wales slam-door set at Warrington BQ whilst walking down the platform, and was kindly thanked by the despatcher :D He, somewhat jokingly, suggested I get a job as a despatcher, but the funny thing was that I was already in the...

Northern Station Improvements & New Ticket Machines

I just thought I'd mention that the TVM's at Manchester Vic were replaced with the newer type at some point over the past few days. These photos were taken yesterday morning and, as you can perhaps see despite the poor quality, neither were working (not a surprise though given the number of...
