I suppose you're right :lol: My thinking was that if the guard was dispatching from the other end of the train, they might not notice if, for example, a passenger had attempted to open the crew door and left it on the catch. But then again, I suppose it's in an area not accessible to passengers...

A somewhat pedantic question, but with the Cross Country HSTs retaining the crew only slam-doors at one end of the train, wouldn't the platform staff at York still need to be trained on how to identify they are properly closed? Though I've no idea if dispatch procedures include checking...

After Astley, doesn't signalling come under the control of Warrington PSB before going back to the Manchester ROC at some point after Earlestown? I suppose it doesn't make any difference to the number of switches between the ROC and other boxes though :)

That's a shame but thanks for letting me know. If the Mk4s take considerably longer to enter into service, hopefully a derogation would be granted to allow the Mk3s to continue into next year.
