No what I'm saying is this and I'll use an example from my college tutors. If the government deems there are too many widget makers in this country and a job for a widget maker comes up, the government can put obstacles in the way for recruiting non EU citizens. It can't do that to EU citizens...

If the jobs didn't exist neither would that sector. Under EU rules I can't give first choice just to British citizens, but if I found a non EU citizen perfect for the jobs I'd have a whole load of hoops to jump through.

The problem isn't immigration though. If a certain sector of industry didn't need anymore migrant workers, we can stop non eu migrants from coming for those jobs but wouldn't be able to stop EU migrants because of the freedom of movement that comes from being in the EU
