Hopefully the DfT will allow some scope for local decision making and not want to ratify every small thing prior to implementation. Otherwise there's going to be a very full in-tray somewhere in the DfT.

GTR plans (basically Sat next week, then Sun thereafter - with amended start / finish times) are shown in a banner on the home page for each brand eg Thameslink https://www.thameslinkrailway.com/

Can see your point but don't agree, as it would penalise key workers on later shifts by making them pay more than normal.

You don’t say where you are travelling from, but train companies often have discounts available - such as the “Kids for £2” on Thameslink https://www.thameslinkrailway.com/tickets/discounts-and-railcards/kids-for-2 Also available on GN and Southern.

May well be more expensive, but worth checking the TfL Contactless fare for the full journey, as St Albans is now enabled for that (but not Oyster)

Going towards Heathrow there are now lifts at Finsbury Park - route is convoluted, but not long (2 lifts). Trains busy in morning peak, but quite a lot of passengers do get off there. Returning, the lift up to platform 7/8 hasn’t been installed yet, so Kings Cross might be better with heavy...

The second text you quote matches the info given here https://eastcoastupgrade.co.uk/travel-information/. So far in the project that website has been among the first to carry news re dates etc, so worth watching, particularly for info beyond 12 weeks. (Edited to clarify I meant the 2nd text)

I’ve seen new posters at GTR stations in the last day or so showing the replacement bus routes linking to other lines. The extent of the closures between the 2 weekends vary and National Rail Enquiries seem to be offering a range of options. On Sat 25 Jan there is an hourly bus service leaving Huntingdon eg at 10:05 which gets to St Pancras at 13:04, changing at St Neots (bus) and Bedford (train). Driving by car...
