Merseyrail - What's the point of Hunts Cross?

    Eye watering cost though :D

Merseyrail - What's the point of Hunts Cross?

I know the area well and you are correct. Even light tram would be very difficult to do. The road from Speke Boulevard to the airport could have the bus lanes converted to tram easy enough but once on the very busy boulevard it is a different matter.

Is rail REALLY that bad in the North?

The frequency of services through Helsby to Manchester and North Wales are fine and we will soon be back to the 70's with through trains to Liverpool via the Halton Curve and services to Man Vic in the peak. For a very small station I'd say that direct access hourly to Liverpool, Manchester...

    The exciting railway event?

The Halton Curve being modified to enable two way running and a new direct service from Helsby to Liverpool for the first time in 40 years. I just hope that the service is successful and that other services also use this mighty new route :)

    Halton Curve upgrade is on

I passed Frodsham Junction this evening and there was some heavy equipment parked adjacent to the signal box. Hard to tell what it was but looked like earth moving type equipment.

Northern timetable plan for May 2018

It would make it worse but also make it a useful commuter service. Those times would suit many people very well, including me :). Thanks for the information.

    The nature of Northern Connect

As I understand it the Ellesmere Port to Helsby service is to be extended through to Manchester (Victoria?) for one train each way in the Peak. I wouldn't have thought tis would be a Northern Connect service as they are supposed to be semi fast and not stoppers. I think the other Helsby to...

Places on existing lines where new stations could be built.

It used to be a Crosville (age showing now) interchange. Currently a bus garage I think but am sure it was designed to fit in with the New Town busway system.

Places on existing lines where new stations could be built.

There was talk a few years ago from Halton Council of building a station in the Beechwood area of Runcorn should the Halton Curve reopen. Work on the Curve (allegedly) starts later this year but talk regarding a new station has gone quiet. The location would offer a bus/rail interchange. The...

    Ordsall Chord

When I was regularly commuting by train into Manchester I would often see people getting off at Oxford Road in a morning and on the platform at Piccadilly late afternoon for precisely that reason, seat from Picc, standing from Oxford Rd.
