Wow. Yet that isn't enough capacity! Normally a double track line can handle between 24 and 30 trains per hour per direction. Given its already Quad track then that would indicate around 60 trains per hour per direction! This is a massive capacity.
I would assume the layout is Track 1 and 4 is...
Whenever curve easing has been carried out in Queensland they just used compulsory acquisition to obtain the necessary land generally farmland or undeveloped land.
Also another option was to bypass difficult sections (eg too built up or dead end station) and building a new station for that...
I really don't get the HS2 project. Wouldn't be far cheaper to curve ease and Quad track the existing routes to better seperate express and stopping trains?
From what I understand the existing routes are very fast with 200kph running is there really enough time saving here to build an entire...
I think it depends on how far out of the city you're in. If you're 50 km out from the centre its mostly going to say something like Brisbane (Roma Street) but if you're only 10km out it will more likely show something like City (Queen Street) or City (Cultural Centre)
A similar thing occurs...
Thats good as the noise and fumes would have be horrendous in those stations. This happens with diesel trains go through underground stations in Brisbane.
I seemed to have read the topic from very beginning rather than most recent post 1st then backwards. So possibly missed quite a few recent...
Please send these to NSW Trainlink they are desperate for extra powercars and sleeper cars! They can see out there days being absolutely thrashed on the rough tracks of NSW. I hope they can handle mid 40s degrees C heat of the summer!
Does this mean diesel locomotive hauled freight train will run through Elizabeth line tunnels due to lack of alternative route? If so no wonder there are so many delays and failures. 1500 metre long container and grain trains don't mix well with all stopping metro style trains underground. So...
I have only seen emergency brake handles on heritage stock and some very old in service stock in Australia. Basically everything built since the 1980s includes the xpts don't have passenger accessible emergency brake handles.
However some modern trains do have emergency help buttons to signal...
That policy certainly would result in significant loss of life. In Australia on board fire means immediate evacuation. As it simply far safer outside the train than in it that situation. The most such fire incidents here in Australia have resulted in the loss of that carriage or even multiple...
Thats true as Queensland has a land area of 1.853 million square kilometres. Its 1067mm railway network totals around 10000km plus separate 600mm railway network totaling around 3000km of light industrial cane lines.
I would assume it depends on the situation and location. Something like a fire onboard the train would require an immediate stop and evacuation to the trackside as multiple lives are at risk.
Other situations like air-conditioning failure would require train to terminate at next station and...
There are some things to consider when comparing Australia's railway network to other countries.
1. The majority of railway infrastructure is funded and built by state governments and all passenger operations are heavily subsidised by the various state governments.
2.The Australian railway...
I surprised supplementary road coaches were not offered. This is standard practice in Victoria and at least everyone gets there even though it can be slower.
You want an example of poor service try Vline in Victoria Australia.
Billions spent on new rollingstock and Billions Spent on track upgrades and even some double tracking projects. However despite this cash splash the reliability and cancellation rates are getting worse with every passing...
From what has been said regarding mandatory seat reservations on long distance trains in the UK. It seems to me on alot of routes there is only the long distance train doing all stations work. When I would have thought there would be a local train stopping all stations and the long distance...
I really don't get why mandatory seat reservations wouldn't work. Its the main stay of rail and coach travel in Australia and most of Asia too.
Unless its a suburban or short distance commuter train no one would stand up on a long distance train in Australia. We just rebook on another service...
There is no way that I would be standing up for hours on end on a long distance train. That kind of crap I expect in south east Asia not the UK! It certainly not allowed on Queensland Rail long distance trains or NSW Trainlink trains either.
I Will most like end up flying within the UK on the...
These are long distance intercity trains? An hourly service overnight wow! There are long distance trains in my country that are twice weekly! Even a daily service is a dream let alone hourly. They really do have it good there.
As for daylight saving the normal situation here is the train runs...
This reminds me of two incidents that I have witnessed on trains.
Once on a sprinter DMU on a Melbourne to Melton service. A guy decided to "make himself happy" on the train the clean up using a headrest cover! Yuk!
The other incident was on KTMB commuter train during the evening peak heading...
