Just spoke to Virgin customer services (on the 0121 number - thanks Voyagerdude). My claim had got jammed in their system and a very helpful gent, approved it there and then and passed it over to their finance department.
First time I've ever had need to call a TOC customer services...
I heard today it is due to shut for 14 weeks next year does anyone know any details such as dates and how how services will be arranged.
The gent who told me didn't think it was part of electrification work but if it is, mods please feel free to move this into the existing thread.
I travelled down to London from Manchester on 5th November when there were severe delays due to the wires being down at Wembley.
I left Picadilly at 15.35, arriving at 19.00 and returned the next morning on the 08.10 service which arrived at 12.00.
As I advised by the TM on the outward...
The two main benefits I see of services terminating at the Airport is that it frees up platform space at Piccadilly and it also gives them the opportunity to terminate the service short at Piccadilly if trying to recover from severe delays.
I would agree with what the majority say - superb staff.
A guard brightened my morning last week with a call of "Tickets, passes, excuses" as he passed through the carriage.
The ones I can personally vouch for:-
Manchester Piccadilly - Boars Head (diagonally opposite Fairfield St entrance), no food but always a choice of proper beers.
Mossley - The Commercial again no food AFAIK but very good selection of ales
Stalybridge - Apart from the superb buffet bar...
Got the 7.04 from Stalybridge to Piccadilly this morning and was 6 cars so actually benefited from a better service as a result of the strike. Couldn't be sure if he was the driver, but the fellow stepping out of the driver's cab had "Managing Director" on his name badge.
Just seen that, having checked the website. Think at the time I must have only checked my outward journey on NRE and wrongly assumed a return would have the validity.
