    Stalybridge - Wrexham General

It was two years ago when I made the journey and the route was suggested by the NRE journey planner and was accepted by both the TPE guards and barrier staff at Liverpool Just checked the website now anmd the results are rather interesting. If you look for a return it will only offer fares...

Sheffield to Manchester rolling stock etc

If you have the time to spare, I would recommend the Northern stopper service which really gives you the oppotunity to take in the beauty of Hope Valley.

Man United Halt - After the Match

They don't open the station until the train is in, first one is normally about 30 minutes after the game, if you're in the way end and leave at the final whistle you should get on the train no problems. Metrolink is pretty awful in terms of behing shoe-horned on and the taxis have a reputation...

Bruntwood chairman describes North West railways as horrendous

Trent Barton are excellent, used to use their Skyline service a lot -really good busses and drivers and if going to Chapel-en-le-Frith much better option than the trek from the station. The Stagecoach service is not a viable alternative due to the dreadful traffic in Glossop and the fact it...

What Stations are good to spend the night in ?

Although it's airport -based, the site has quite a few station "reviews" listed - http://www.sleepinginairports.net/europe/index.htm

Cardiff City fans can't use Ninian Park station

The platform seems to be no worse than Horwich Parkway which was built to serve The Reebok stadium. As already indicated, pre-match there is no problem as the fans don't all arrive at once. Post-match the fans are queued up on the road and managed by the police. Northern have extra staff on...

    Transpennine Express Industrial Action

Plus 185s are unique to TPE, so you'd struggle to find anyone else qualified to drive them.

Stalybridge to Hartepool Sat 3rd September

Cheers Rich. I working my way through the 92 so Darlington will be getting a visit at some point. Good call on the GC - might for the 9.44 and there's a direct TPE due in 8 minutes before and advance returns for York come in £18 total so saved pounds and got 3 hours boozing time too. :D

    Transpennine Express Industrial Action

I respect their right to strike, considering it's the same week as the announced fares increase. Commuting from Stalybridge is going to be a lottery as I'm pretty sure all the Northern services will be full to bursting by the time they get there. Think I'll have to go the for the two-hour...

Stalybridge to Hartepool Sat 3rd September

Any useful ticket suggestions for this journey? I have no rail cards and would be looking at an adult fare. I'm going up for a football match so can flexible to a degree, would like to be there before 1pm and can leave anytime after about 6pm. Thanks in advance.

Stalybridge Station - 2 extra platforms

I've not heard anything about it, but would fail to see the practicalities as almost every service calls at the stops outside the rail station.

Do UK commuters pay the highest rail fares in Europe?

Same price for my Stalybridge - Bramhall which is 160 miles based on 5 return journeys = 15p/mile. Plus I'll be using it to get to Horwich Parkway and back at the weekend which will about another 50 mile round journey.

Stalybridge Station - 2 extra platforms

The derelict buildings are the fault of the local council, who have blocked every change of use application as to effectively render the property effectively worthless and unsaleable. I agree that something needs to be done to give the town some attractions to the passing visitor as these...

Virgin and Debit cards on Trains when?

I used one on Saturday no probs. The shop guy said they except everything but Electron (obvious reasons) and Amex (Rip-off Merchant fees).

Stalybridge Station - 2 extra platforms

Excellent news, it would be great if some commercial and leisure development was made of the large area of vacant land immediately south of the station to really kick-start the town econmically.

Stalybridge Station - 2 extra platforms

Just been reading through Alliance Rail's latest proposals - http://content.yudu.com/Library/A1tf81/WCMLTrackAccessRight/resources/index.htm?referrerUrl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.alliancerail.co.uk%2F2011%2F08%2F16811-alliance-rail-press-release%2F - and seen a reference to work at Stalybridge to provide...

Why are rail rovers the poor relation?

I see plenty of posters advertising Wayfarers and West Yorkshire Rovers, or is this down to PTEs rather than TOCs?
