This is true, to make matters worse - you would normally need to change busses at Ashton - Stagecoach are the only operator with services to Stockport whereas most buses from Oldham & Stalybridge are operated by First so you have to buy a more expensive System One ticket.

You could do Brighouse - Sheffield with Nat Express (coach) for £8.20 and Sheffield - Hope for £5.80 but not sure if the saving justifies it.

As someone who spent 5 years commuting to Stockport from Stalybridge, the majority of delays seemed to occur after passing Levenshulme, so I would imagine the problem would occur where the airport line joins.

They could possibly provide a peak service starting from Reddish South which could go to Stalybridge before forming one of the Stalybridge - Victoria - Lime Street service providng Reddish South & Denton with a commuter link with the option of either staying on the train for a longer journey...

I can confirm it is impossible, have tried it on the way back from watching an abysmal Tranmere game, all the way from Birkenhead to Ainsdale having stayed up all Friday night and still not possible.

Ran fine today, never realised before that the line only connects to Platform 2 at Guide Bridge, although the board was showing Platform 1. Hope no-one was waiting to get on there as it would be impossible to make it in time with no footbridge anymore.

I not sure they really need it, the current Island platform seems to the job well enough.

They'd have to keep the current one as its a thing of beauty, but a second office to take the peak strain is good idea, perhaps utilising the empty space where the disused metrolink plaform is.

I would imagine it would appeal to Airport passengers as it saves them shifting suitcases from one train to another, given that there are direct services to Manchester Airport from Blackpool North already.

There is also a Hale in Halton Borough, which is also in Cheshire so maybe this is to avoid confusion with the two places even though only one them has a rail station.

This route would give them the option of taking a longer journey with no change tiill Sheffield or a quicker one with an extra change. Plenty of people I know who aren't regular rail users still make use of Nat Rail Enquiries with their mobiles so it's fairly easy to plan such a journey.
