Great British Railways: Station identity and livery unveiling (09/12/25)

pretty terrible. I guess the assignment must have been "take the ideas of the NSE livery and make it as awful as possible". That will also age so fast (if it hasn't already!)

I had a valid train ticket with the wrong railcard applied. I was charged a penalty

I'm sure others will be along to answer, but 70.90 to avoid any threat of prosecution is a deal you should take. You can then follow up to try and get refunded the difference.

    AWC Derailment Pendolino recovery discussion

The could send it round the Hamilton Circle maybe? Not sure its a cleared route anymore though but I believe it used to be

Off-peak ticket used during peak time

Then a penalty fare is still inappropriate to deal with this situation.

Build Your Own Mini Departure Boards

I'm sure I'm not the only one to lust over the ukdepartureboards.co.uk offerings, but I would never get that past Mrs Bob. I've found a low budget version, if you have some soldering skills. I've gotten the OLED display and ESP32, successfully programmed it and it works easily. I'm waiting...

The nearest station is 5,000 miles away

amusing but it would be nice if it realized if you're more than say 500 miles away from the nearest station you probably want stations near airports. I suspect there isn't enough usage to justify the work.

Trivia: Downsized stations that are shells of their former selves?

St Pancras in the 1990s would be the poster child for this thread, then it got a bit of a refurb!

Which station(s) have gone the longest without seeing any freight/railtours?

I never saw anything remotely interesting on the Hamilton Circe line - must be a contender

Farringdon wasn't exactly a tourist destination or change point, although it might have changed now the Elizabeth Line runs through

Porterbrook Cl.769 'Flex' trains from 319s, initially for Northern

The Glasgow ones make some sense, to cover partial electrification to East Kilbride and to deal with the Ayr drama.

does Montrose get in the 'honorable mention' category?

Bad design of Thameslink platform departure screens

I wonder if an easy fix would be to lower the right-hand display about a quarter height, so you're drawn to the higher screen.

Bad design of Thameslink platform departure screens

Even that doesnt seem so clear. Arrived as in past tense? "At Platform" or "Boarding" would be clearer imho.

yep everywhere, still the mainstay of the operation!

Odd set of scans - likely to result in a letter?

but working in IT should inform you of how much project management / software development time and even AWS compute it would take to find this information. There are much more profitable targets for this kind of data trawl!

Metra orders battery trains from Stadler

probably more that fleet utilization is so low that there is plenty of opportunity to charge up at either end rather than try to run knitting.
