Is there likely to be a Valenta HST farewell tour?

Yes, well done GC for marking this occasion. I clocked it, but again like others I was working and no holidays left!! For me, Valentas and the HSTs will always have a special place for me. As a student apprentice at Brush, I spent a nice summer - 1975 I'm sure - working with the Brush site...

    airdrie bathgate link

I'm afraid it would take "much" - a lot of money for the kit, several thousand pounds per unit, plus a lot of new wiring through the train. The total cost with installation, safety approvals, etc., would be prohibitive for a "nice to have". No need when there's plenty of Class 334's to run...

    London Midland 2012 changes

That's a great idea! Stop at Acton Bridge to enable Liverpool Parkway and Runcorn to Northwich and Knutsford trips? There was a proposal for a west-bound track out of Manchester Airport to the Cheshire Lines at Ashley. That would make an even greater service!!

    North West electrification query

It used to be a Saturday. A group of enthusiasts adopted it and started using it regularly. So, to prevent the service appearing to be used and therefore "needed", they changed days!!

That's great that they're running them. It must be that they are thrown in as replacements for other diagrammed stock as and when. 001/003/101/102/103/104/110/111 are units shown as currently available. Not sure how 004 got there?

In truth, the first is often the last to enter service. The first is often instrumented up for type testing and is incomplete inside. By the time such tests are finishhed, the unit often goes back on the end of the production line to be refitted. Certainly happened on 465.001/465.201/466.001...

    380 in Britain NOW!

I've been involved with designing and introdcuing new rolling stock over the last 35 years and no matter what the level of technolgy used there are always UNFORSEEN problems. No amount of testing off the national rail system - even on test tracks - can totally simulate the conditions of the...

    380 in Britain NOW!

I can't vouch for what did or did not happen last week (end) but the current situation is that 8 units are "accepted" for service and 4 of these are shown diagrammed for service this week. But none of them are actually being used for passenger service at the moment. What with all the snow...

    North West electrification query

The NW electrification will give choices of alternative electrified Preston to Liverpool and Manchester routes via the Chat Moss Liverpool to Manchester route. This route is already partially electrified at the Liverpool end (to Edge Hill) and between Earlestown and Newton-le Willows as a...

    HS2 Stations north of Birmingham

If you want a "classic" station for Manchester, why not reclaim and rebuild Manchester Central and do a St. Pancras jobby on it? It faces the right way for a HS2 line running via Warrington, either by new lines, using existing routes (e.g. Chat Moss) or a combination of both.

    London Midland 2012 changes

The proposed timetables show that the Preston trains will stop at Hartford, giving a new service north from Hartford to Preston and then connections north. This will be the first time for many years Hartford (for Northwich area) has had a service north down the WCML and it is a new, untapped...

London Midland proposed changes to North West services

This is a good suggestion to me! It brings back Preston "all stations" to Crewe to half-hourly (since the London trains cut the Crewe stop) and reliff to overcrowded Birmingham - Scotland Virgin services. I think Liverpool to Birmingham at half-hourly was always overkill!! Liverpool to London...

Wait for the IEP decision. If IEP does not go ahead, at least in its main form, a number of refurb and conversion jobs are waiting in the wings. The extra paantograph cars for 22x is a leading contender in this job list. It has been concepted, tendered and just awaits an order.....
