    Unit Quarantine

If an incident has happened then a unit could be impounded until a download has been done to assess if a driver has been at fault. Similarly, if a unit has hit someone, it may be kept as evidence until the necessary people have what they need. In these cases people won’t be allowed in, so maybe...

Lewes platform alterations between P4 and P5 that frequently occur.

I haven’t seen it happen for ages. I travel through there on an almost daily basis. That’s not to say it doesn’t happen, clearly your anecdotal evidence suggests it does, but I’m fairly confident it doesn’t happen that much. As for why, there’ll be a reason, even if it doesn’t show as obvious.

Trivia: Terminus stations where most trains are through services

Eastbourne isn’t the majority. It’s 1tph in the favour of terminating plus peak extras and those starting & terminating at the start and end of service. There are plenty of through services though.

    Trivia: Traincrew nicknames for routes

The tunnel just north of the M25 is the Quarry Tunnel, hence the line being the Quarry Line. Why the tunnel is the Quarry Tunnel I don’t know however.

    Trivia: Traincrew nicknames for routes

It’s not that it’s bad, but all Brighton Drivers sign it from the outset and to begin with it can be a bit death by Seaford. Plus when you’re new and on a spare turn and something goes wrong, even if the problem is in London or Portsmouth, it’s highly likely you’ll cover Seaford to allow a...

    unprofessional onboard announcements

Exactly. I travel from Eastbourne to London frequently and you don’t need to announce Thameslink changes at Haywards Heath, Gatwick and East Croydon.

    unprofessional onboard announcements

I think it’s all contextual, as people have said. Some personality and some humour can make all the difference, but it can easily get annoying. I have no issue with humour, but my personal hate is when people make unnecessarily long connections announcements. I have no problem with key...

Pets should be banned from the rail network

As much as I don’t care for the levels of obsessiveness some people have for their dogs, I’d still rather have a well behaved dog next to me than an unruly person. I’m not a huge fan of dogs on seats, but equally accept many dogs are cleaner than the individuals that may replace them if they...

Direct Eastbourne to London Bridge back for commuters.

Ah that sounds interesting, I’ll have to take a ride on one of those. I did like running non-stop through Gatwick. In which case hopefully this one does the same.

Direct Eastbourne to London Bridge back for commuters.

I’d imagine it’ll be similar to the current Vic services. I doubt it’ll stop at Berwick or Glynde, and one of Cooksbridge or Plumpton, maybe both. I can’t see it skipping Gatwick as I don’t think anything does now in the peaks does it? I’d back skipping Gatwick tho on some peak Vic services.

I didn’t know they had that!! Rolling stock you didn’t know that company operated.

I think it was due to a shortage of units. The CT, and then later, EMT (not sure if it carried on into EMR time) unit was booked to sit there until its first duty and could squeeze in a Yarmouth and back for GA. As to the crews I have no idea, I doubt GA learned 158’s for it so I assume some...

    Rarest Movements ?

I did once see a Hull Trains 180 come off the Goblin and onto the NLL very late at night. Thought that was very out of place, but I think I then found out they sent them that way for maintenance at OOC as that was when FGW had some and did the maintenance for them. So wasn’t really that odd...

    Rarest Movements ?

Oh cool. Seems a long way round. I assume the closure was between Hastings and Tonbridge so they couldn’t run via Redhill. Equally, surprised they didn’t just run extra SN services but where would the stock come from etc etc.

    Rarest Movements ?

What was the cause for this? I know Southern borrowed some 375’s for a short period of time once, but that was when they were white I’m pretty sure.

What happened at Leicester railway station today (09/07/25)?

‘Trespasser’ is quite a wide reaching description. It could be a teenager going past the boundary, right next to the line, to reclaim something like a football, which is probably dealt with quite quickly, it could also be something like a drunk person taking ‘a shortcut’ down the tracks and then...

What happened at Leicester railway station today (09/07/25)?

Quite likely. Reports of trespassers are taken seriously and then until it’s confirmed not to be a trespasser and safe to continue at line speed, everything moves very slowly/not at all until that point. Trains and train crew are all planned to be in exact points at exact times, so incidents...

Silverstone rail link - spur off of HS2?

Yeah, there’s a tram stop near Old Trafford that is (to the naked eye) the usual tram sizes for things, but has lots and lots of queuing lines outside the station keeping the crowds safe and ordered (as well as football fans can be). Silverstone has plenty of space for queuing. As for Lewes...

Silverstone rail link - spur off of HS2?

As mentioned, the contract is for 2034, but with pro sports, if someone had enough money I’m sure they could change that… It straddles both Northants and Bucks. Damon Hill was talking during the qualifying commentary about the changes they made to the track to keep it up to date had to be...

Silverstone rail link - spur off of HS2?

If it was a HS2 station then I guess all HS2 services could be reservation only, so you’d be able to cope as you’d know how many to expect and when. Though one would also say by being reservation only and not having ‘crowd buster cram ‘em all on’ post race’, the station wouldn’t exactly be that...
