Greater Anglia train driver assessment day info

You still need to pass their online assessments, they differ from TOC to TOC. The only information shared are the OPC/MMI and the driver assessments carried out in a controlled environment (where it's 2 strikes and out). You have to do the tests over and over again, if you make multiple...

LNER - Apprentice Driver - Kings Cross & Leeds (06/01/22)

Central government? Retail during Black Friday? Bond Villainary? Any eatery open after closing time on a Friday/Saturday night? (Those folks have zen-like demeanours in the face of adversity).

I have applied for LNER, however I currently work at a different TOC.

LNER - Apprentice Driver - Kings Cross & Leeds (06/01/22)

I can imagine that shortlisting, or recruiting for trainee drivers is the Railway HR equivalent of the end of the Financial Year for book-keepers, accountants etc. As in all hands on deck, it's going to get crazy. I woke up to a holding email, it arrived very, very late... Well, I guess it is...

LNER - Apprentice Driver - Kings Cross & Leeds (06/01/22)

At least you haven't been ghosted  I may just go through the internal route, where I am, but the last couple of years at my depot and TOC have been shocking for trainee drivers, from what I have heard, I would strongly prefer to learn to drive elsewhere.

LNER - Apprentice Driver - Kings Cross & Leeds (06/01/22)

I applied and did all of the assessments on the 6th and did my video interview on the 7th. Haven't heard a thing, not even a holding email *shrugs* maybe I am not what they are looking for. NBD.

A career as a train driver

From the interviewers I know, it tends not to go down well, with one interviewer well known at my TOC for saying "Why on earth should I hire you, invest my time and energy in you when you already have one foot out of the door?" TOCs spend a lot of money and invest a lot of time in...

How many applications and interviews until you cracked it?

I applied for 3 different positions in 3 completely different TOCs in February 2016. Within a month, I was interviewed for Trainee Driver for Northern, Depot Driver for Chiltern in the newly opening Banbury Depot, and my current role at my current TOC. I know that my experience in 2016 isn't...

Greater Anglia - Trainee Drivers - Multiple Locations (14/01/22)

Very well done! Is this for depot or one of the mainlines, if you don't mind me asking?

LNER - Apprentice Driver - Kings Cross & Leeds (06/01/22)

Not necessarily, if you fail the MMI, you need to wait another 6 months before resitting. We don't know how long it will take for LNER to come back to you, it could be days, weeks, months, some folks get contacted a year or so afterwards. If you do not pass, and you do get contacted quickly...

LNER - Apprentice Driver - Kings Cross & Leeds (06/01/22)

...and now, the waiting game starts. Anyone fancy a Hob Nob? Why on earth is there no tea/coffee emoji? As a railway worker, I feel very attacked!

Greater Anglia - Trainee Drivers - Multiple Locations (14/01/22)

I wouldn't worry too much about it, it may be an internal code regarding depot or something else rather innocuous. Well done getting your application in quick <:D

A career as a train driver

The key and important question you need to know the answer to, before applying to be a trainee Train driver, is; Do I really want to become a train driver? If the answer is "Yes!" then get stuck in, read the instructions, answer honestly. When you are out there, on your own, there's going to...

    Trainee Driver Assessment Process Tips

In my current TOC, I have spoken with a lot of drivers, some have been driving longer than I have been on the planet. A number of the old hands feel that with the tests, the simulators, etc, they'd never pass the assessments, let alone the modern driver training course. But these men and...

    Trainee Driver Assessment Process Tips

The online application is straightforward enough. Just follow the instructions given. They are simple enough, and explained clearly. If you have to answer questions, answer them honestly, integrity is important. Each TOC may have different assessments, so it's best just to read the information...

That's also why they have those assessments to filter applicants.

LNER - Apprentice Driver - Kings Cross & Leeds (06/01/22)

It may be a while, there were a lot of applicants for the roles, and they need to give folks their 3 days to submit the bits that was asked.
