I was reading the national rail timetable and in the section for that route it says that catering is available on the 1324 Newcastle to Glasgow via Dumfries albiet the trolley is available from Carlisle!

These services actually had a trolley service until 1996!

There are improvements taking place aka refurbishment on the class 320 units and the fact they run ECS through shows they will cope very well!
