    Schiphol Airport to Utrecht Centraal

My business travel agent is stumped by this, so maybe someone here can help. What ticket types are there for Dutch railways? Are there returns? Are tickets specific to one train, like our Advance fares? The agent put into booking system the journey as I requested but was asked for the train...

    Dartford to Deal

Could anyone help with this one? Is there a way to specify minimum connection time on the national rail app? My parents want to go from Dartford to Deal about 11am on Monday 6th March returning a similar time that Thursday. They require a minimum of 10 minutes connection for any change that...

    Class 800's trip reports

Good afternoon everyone, I am starting a thread to put together my trip reports. I won't write up every journey I make and I have posted separately on my Devon rangers in the past, but this is a start. Today I walked from Plumstead Common to Plumstead station where I was planning to take a rare...

Confusion resulting from ticket type names

'Off-peak return' is a product with validity for 30 days on the return leg. I've had experiences with ticket offices thinking I want a day return, and having to correct them. It's certainly not helpful that the ticket no longer mentions 'period'. Has anyone else had such issues?

Cranbrook to High Wycombe - routing question

Good morning ladies and gentlemen, I've been looking into the routing permutations for Cranbrook to High Wycombe (off peak single). National Rail Enquiries suggests the following as among the valid options: Cranbrook - Exeter St Davids - London Paddington - Marylebone - High Wycombe...

    Last train York to London

23rd July, last train York to London Kings Cross showing 20.01. I've looked at a via Leeds option but doesn't offer anything later. Anyone know a permitted route that would allow a later departure even if slower? 20.01 is tight but doable for me I think.

Best way to get from Plumstead to Brough

I'm due to go from Plumstead to Brough on 15 July. Instinctively, I would have changed at St Pancras International (Rainham to Luton service) and walked over to Kings Cross and looked for a train to Hull - or failing that one to Doncaster. But National Rail journey planner is suggesting the...

Should revenue officers be subject to restrictions regarding their questioning of passengers

Moderator note: Split from https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/revenue-protection-officers-how-much-attitude-do-you-expect.230469/#post-5618208 In my opinion saying 'I don't care' should be an immediate gross misconduct as should deliberately making someone miss a train. Unions will make it...

London Terminals to Filey - any permitted

Can I check my understanding of the main permitted routes for 'any permitted' London Terminals to Filey? Via York and Seamer Via Doncaster Goole Brough and Hull Via Doncaster Selby Brough and Hull I think all are permitted - from London Kings Cross I think there might be a permitted route out...

Individual vs company responsibility for work travel

Branching off from a thread in D&P as we agreed it was OT for that thread. I work in a setting where the company has a travel agency that books all our travel and takes responsibility for choosing the itinerary and tickets. I may on occasion have some say in the itinerary, such as if there are...

What should be done with problematic stations such as Peartree?

Moderator note: split from https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/peartree-station-not-accessible.228086/#post-5533193 It's known as a bit of a rough area - but there are plenty stations in rough areas that aren't gated off like that. A ticket barrier may suffice. With video link to a staffed...

Devon day ranger 11 February 2022

I've previously posted one Devon day ranger report - and have subsequently done another similar journey that I didn't write up for a report (wasn't actually a ranger), which visited Totnes, Gunnislake, Devonport and Plymouth from Cranbrook. Today, in order to avoid the frequent engineering works...

Devon Day Ranger Saturday 15 January 2022

I will be doing a Devon Day Ranger tomorrow, 15 January and am planning to cover all track (that is open) within the validity of the ranger - but not alight at every station, due to time. I don't have an itinerary nor do I want one, I want to be spontaneous and respond to how long I want in...

Track connection between Greenwich line and line to London Charing Cross

Would anyone who is expert in infrastructure be able to confirm whether there is indeed still a track connection between the Greenwich line (Charlton to Deptford) and the line through to London Charing Cross? I had read in the media that the remodelling of London Bridge as part of the Thameslink...

C2C use of festive themed station names

C2C have been using festive themed versions of some of their station names in the days running up to Christmas. While some news outlets have seen it as for example "a bit of Christmas merrymaking" https://www.romfordrecorder.co.uk/news/traffic/c2c-stops-get-a-christmas-makeover-8581078, other...

West of England line service patterns 1970s-1990s

I've searched this forum and not come up with any relevant threads. I'm interested in what the basic service pattern (high level really, just number of trains an hour and calling pattern, not exact timings unless others are interested) was on the West of England line (Basingstoke to Exeter via...

    Mapped routes Cranbrook to Plumstead

Cranbrook to Plumstead There are no direct trains. So I look for the shortest route by rail. This is via Salisbury and Basingstoke into London Waterloo, then Waterloo East to Plumstead. For additional routing options, I consult the routing maps. I am still not as proficient as I would like...

Bridge strike Salisbury 7 October 2021

Does anyone know more about this? I was on the 18.39 service to London Waterloo from Cranbrook. We were held at a signal for 5 minutes approaching where the line from Warminster merges. The guard then announced that we would proceed 'at caution' because a road vehicle had collided with the...
