Greater Anglia plans to store rolling stock on Mid Norfolk Railway

Thank you for the update. Great to see a preserved line making such good use of a connection to the main network.

Does anyone have any news about progress with this? Many thanks.

    HS2 - Great Central 4 Tracking.

I think Catesby tunnel is about to become some sort of aerodynamics test facility? That effectively kills any reinstatement to Rugby surely.

Possible plans for Edinburgh Waverley station?

Many thanks 47271 and railjock for your comments. Still sounds quite a nice book though so if Santa leaves a bit of extra cash I just may indulge :) ...!

Possible plans for Edinburgh Waverley station?

Seconded! In fact, I'd be grateful if anyone knows of a brief history of how Waverley has evolved over the years. I used to commute from Kirkcaldy into Waverley between 2000 - 2006 and it's fascinating seeing these new developments. It's getting to be a really busy place.

    GCR Bridge Project

Thanks for the explanation Phil. Must admit, the condition of the water for steam generation was something that hadn't even crossed my mind. These details are just as interesting as the gap work.

    GCR Bridge Project

Thanks for your continuing efforts keeping us updated on this Phil. This is the thread I always come to first when logging on! Could you clarify what the 'Water treatment site' is though? Is this something internal to the GCR? Many thanks.

    ‘RHM’ meaning

Just curious, but it sounds as though the change is quite small. What's it for? Thanks.

    Metrolink "Early Bird" fare

Apologies, I'm probably guilty of wandering off topic by bringing up the issue of operating systems. My point was intended to be that, by restricting the availability to mobile phone users, TFGM are effectively excluding a certain demographic who aren't comfortable with the technology. Hardly...

    Metrolink "Early Bird" fare

The time restrictions alone mean the scheme is useless for me but, if I understand it correctly, I need a 'smart' phone? Theoretically I have got one but it's Windows 8.1 and I need reading glasses to see the bloody screen anyway!!!

    Famous people on trains

I used to commute between Edinburgh and Kirkcaldy about the time that 'Monarch of the Glen' was on TV and once saw Susan Hampshire on an Inverness service. She was in standard class too which, for some reason, struck me as odd...

Greater Anglia plans to store rolling stock on Mid Norfolk Railway

Got it! Thank you Steptoe. The Google Earth image is dated about 12 months ago but, looking a bit harder, stacked rail is visible. Wouldn't have spotted the site without your help though.

Greater Anglia plans to store rolling stock on Mid Norfolk Railway

Apologies but I'm not familiar with that part of the world. Where exactly are the new sidings going to be? Looking on Google Earth, there are facilities just south of Hardingham Station that have a 'railway' look about them. Is that the location or that is that part of the private yard that...

Why are Metrolink trams so slow?

Many thanks for the clarification. Certainly sounds like what's happening but, surely, that can't be doing the rails and vehicle itself much good!

Why are Metrolink trams so slow?

Many thanks for the reply Mojo. I understand what you're saying but, as a passenger, it's hard to detect any 'swaying' as such (under the conditions described). The 'judder' is quite high frequency. I don't really know the rest of the network well so it would be interesting to know if anyone...

Why are Metrolink trams so slow?

Morning All! Just joined and my first post so seems appropriate to kick off with something close to home. I use the MML system quite often so it was interesting to hear some of the comments - especially about the speeds achieved. My question is why the current vehicles suffer from horrendous...
