The article on the web-site says that three of the four corners have now been repaired. What I'm slightly puzzled about is that it says the beam structure used to lift the corners for the repairs has now been removed but the south-west corner bearing still needs to be repaired! It didn't explain...
Any word on progress with construction? I had a quick look for photographs on-line but the latest examples I could find were all of the demolition work, nothing later.
Many thanks.
I'd need to check the booklet to be absolutely sure of the event but I was lucky enough to be a student in Newcastle for what I think was the 150th anniversary of the Hexham to Carlisle Railway. As we're never likely to see this again, what was so poignant was being hauled by Evening Star from...
Not at any useful time though. On the days I use the trams I never see one and I work normal office hours. Even though it's a six-minute service past Shaw it's still usually crammed after Oldham/Freehold (sorry, wandering OT).
Just curious but what are the arrangements for holding them when not out on runs at the moment? I only ask because, according to my notes, I've seen at least eight different units sitting in Newton Heath over the past few weeks, but never more than two at any one time. Is that deliberate or just...
This certainly ties in with what I remember. As a teenager I used to do the Coventry to Birmingham NS run regularly (this would have been about 1980 give or take a year or two). I seem to recall the bulk of the rake were Mk3s but there nearly always seemed to be an older buffet car - although...
Is Haymarket P0 still in regular use? Was this not supposed to be a temporary platform for Fife Circle services when Waverley was undergoing some serious restructuring a number of years ago? Mind you, it's more years than I care to remember since I was last on those services so things may have...
Totally agree, the seats are awful. Ok for just a few stops (assuming you've actually managed to get one) but desperately uncomfortable for longer runs. I had to use the bus once to get out to Rochdale because of the old Co-op building fire and couldn't help noticing that the bus-seats, although...
It's certainly good to see Central Station frontage being renovated. My understanding is that this is just the western edge of a general scheme to renovate that particular area of Leicester? What I haven't seen is anything dealing with the main platform structure which, at the moment, seems to...
I was a student at Newcastle Polytechnic between 1983 - 85 and used to regularly do the run between Birmingham NS and Newcastle. Don't remember much of the journeys except for the southbound run into Sheffield. In amongst the devastation that was Sheffield back then - I'll never forget - the...
Thank you for the extra detail Llama. Ironically, when Jonesy3001 reminded me that Newton Heath was due for the 195s, I checked the dedicated thread for them and, lo and behold, a forum member had photographed a couple of them in those very sidings!!! I really must keep up...
I did wonder if it was related to upcoming rolling stock changes. You get quite good view of the main yard from the Metrolink line so I'm looking forward to seeing the new stock. Many thanks for the reply, much appreciated.
Does anyone know what the construction work is at the back of Newton Heath depot? There's quite an office-block of portacabins now alongside St Mary's Road! Many thanks.
