I can't really think of anywhere that would be suitable for running the Inverclyde network and the Johnstone area without colossal amounts of dead running, so I don't really think you can read too much into it.
I had to do Kelvinhall to Partick on the subway yesterday (I was travelling with someone with extremely limited mobility) - £1.75 for less than half a mile
There's the flip side to that - suppose I need to be at Hale Barns on an Altrincham bound service, with the padding mid journey, I can practically guarantee being there on time, whereas if it were implemented as a longer turnaround, there's a good chance of being late.
Without looking in detail, they'd possibly run into problems slotting in at Golborne Junction (northbound) or Parkside Junction (SB). Also, do all relevant crews sign the route?
It has an interesting effect down the Airport line - it's going to get 2 tph all stations Manchester Airport - Manchester Piccadilly (one of which starts at Crewe, one of which continues to Liverpool), Heald Green gets a stop in one Blackpool, Gatley gets a stop in the Cumbria, East Didsbury...
I'm not seeing what the problem with for a journey between Berwick and Glynde - the Southern website is cheerfully quoting me the £4 off-peak day return between the two, on a direct train
I don't know when it started, but here's a link to the timetable https://www.firstbus.co.uk/api/timetables/pdf?opco=22&day=sa&service=160%2FS60&print=pdf - but be warned that it only runs on the first and third Saturday of a month.
Can someone tell me if the 160 and S60 Stirling to Tyndrum are subsidised by Stirling Council? - I was on the 08:20 from Stirling last Saturday, and it carted the very freshest of fresh air all the way through, and there wasn't anyone on at Tyndrum for the return trip.
