    Your favourite seating position

For me, I want a window seat with a charging point. In daylight hours I want to be forward facing with a proper window to look out of. On my regular trains I have favourite seats to book but, unfortunately, there is no guarantee of which way the seat will face. Of course, if it was allowed...

    Bradford Stations Consultation / Improvements

I was in Bradford a few days ago. This is one of the pavement markers, which marks the route between Forster Square and Interchange:

Trespass incident at Manchester Piccadilly (11/03)

Big crowds, waiting for buses, at both Stockport and Stalybridge. Now, if there was only some way of getting between the two by train.

    Is Stafford still barrier free?

Stafford certainly isn't barriered and, the last time I asked (probably around 3 months ago; I know a few people who work at the station), there are no plans to do so. Having said that, there seems to be plenty of space for barriers. Over the next few years, there are also plans to open up the...

Eurostar gauging trials in Scotland (1997)

I used the service once (after returning from Brussels) between Waterloo and Stafford.

Yes, it was the same at Stafford, with services to both Paris and Brussels listed.

    Mythbusting: doubling back

In this particular case its not part of the destination Routeing Point Group, so I believe break of journey and stopping short are allowed. It does pass the NRM64 fares check, even though current fares produce a saving.

    Mythbusting: doubling back

I got pulled up on a doubling back, by a Northern guard, a week ago. Its one I use to save a couple of pounds, so I won't mention the exact details, but basically my train goes from A to B. Just before B my train passes through X without stopping, so I buy a cheaper day return ticket from A to...

    NRCoT Section 14.2 query

Since the NRCoT came into force I have used rail tickets from Stafford to Burton, combined with a Derbyshire Wayfarer, to get to Sheffield and beyond on many occasions. Quite a few of those involved trains which did not stop at Burton. I've had this combination checked a few times, between...

The future of Barlaston / Norton Bridge / Wedgwood railway stations.

It appears that Norton Bridge is living in a sort of limbo state for the time being in that, although it was permanently closed on 10 December 2017, tickets can still be purchased for journeys from/to Norton Bridge. This seems to be on the basis of the temporary extension of the bus subsidy...

Do WCML stations have a worse service under VTWC?

I've always got the impression that the main commutes are Birmingham and Wolverhampton. However, I think you'd be surprised by the numbers that commute to London on a daily basis; I've seen the numbers grow significantly over the years.

Do WCML stations have a worse service under VTWC?

Overall that's quite right, Stafford has benefitted from its strategic position on the network, and this is likely to further increase with additional LNR/WMR services, plus the prospect of a sub-1 hour high speed service, to London, on HS2. On the other side of the coin it has lost a lot of...

    Caledonian Sleeper Mk5 Discussion

I'm looking to use the sleeper in April, so I thought I'd use the website to see what my options are. It seems that after the 23rd February there are no 1st class options as such, just a choice between 'Classic Solo', 'Classic Shared' and 'Seated'. It then states "Please be aware that you are...

    RMT dispute on XC

Noticed this tweet earlier (posted yesterday): Its a late kick off (17:30), so the match is expected to finish at 19:25 ish. Not many options on this one but, if they are prepared to get back to Witton station quickly, then: Witton d 19:36 New Street a 19:46 New Street d 20:03 * Derby a...

    Do you use ticket offices?

I would think my split is something like: Online (delivered by post) 40% Online (collect from TVM) 25% Online (print at home) 5% On Day (at ticket office) 25% On Day (at TVM) 4% Mobile Ticket 1% So, my answer would be fairly regularly, which there isn't an option for.

West Yorkshire Day Rover evening restriction.

West Yorkshire Metro still have the link on their website, which states: http://www.wymetro.com/peak-restrictions/ I assume that this would still cover it, despite the change of franchise holder. Interestingly, the 'new' scratch-off West Yorkshire Day Rovers, that I've purchased, still don't...

    Special Offers Discussion

Looks like its working now. However, it cannot be used in conjunction with railcards and, for the journeys I was looking at, I can do more or less the same price with 'alternative' on the day tickets, combined with a railcard. So, I'm out.
