I've found that some online companies are offering the £2 deal, others are not; I booked a Cross Country journey, earlier this month, through Transpennine Express, rather than Cross Country, just because Cross Country were charging full price for the PlusBus rather than the £2 offer.
I remember, back in the 1970s, travelling on the last train of the night, from Ipswich back into London. Somewhere en route the train was 'attacked' (lots of windows put through). Our train was taken out of service and we were transferred onto another train consisting of empty parcel vans for...
The weirdest one I've had involved two rail companies both reimbursing me for the same journey.
The journey was between Preston and Stafford, using Virgin from Preston to Crewe and London Northwestern from Crewe to Stafford.
Both trains were cancelled. However, an alternative Virgin service...
Back in the 1970s and 1980s I used to regularly use the overnight Liverpool/Manchester to Euston service as far as Stafford.
The first train would occupy the north end of platform 1 and have its locomotive detached.
The second train would go through Stafford on the through line, before...
Just used this, for the first time, on the 10:35 from Manchester Piccadilly (Newcastle service), as my incoming train was late and, therefore, I had missed my planned connecting service.
Found the system easy to use, selected my seat and boarded a very full train. I had to get someone to move...
Not quite completely empty, but yesterday morning I caught the 07:50 (Stafford to Carlisle service) Virgin Trains 9 coach Pendolino.
As confirmed by the Train Manager, I was one of two passengers on the train when it departed Stafford.
Travelling between Manchester and Bradford regularly on Saturdays, my route is now Manchester Piccadilly to Huddersfield, using Transpennine and then the X63 bus service between Huddersfield and Bradford.
With a railcard, the return rail fare and PlusBus ticket comes to a total of £11.70, a bit...
The Hebden Bridge cafe is closed on Saturdays for the duration of the strike; I caught the one train that ran through from Manchester Victoria, last Saturday, and there was a sign on the door confirming that.
I would imagine that Saturday was their busiest day, if so, yes, this could easily...
Norton Bridge has, and still does, offer some interesting fare saving opportunities. But not for much longer.
@drspa44 thanks for this, I'm sure it will help me find a few more fare saving options.
I don't expect a minister to have detailed knowledge of railway timetables and their implementation, but I do expect them to ensure that the Chairman of Network Rail does; and, if not, make changes.
Ultimately, it is the government who are responsible for delivering and maintaining this...
Well done on pursuing this.
Getting adequate signage up is a step in the right direction and I can understand that having to have a working machine on every platform might be overkill, but nobody should be expected to have to leave a station to access a machine.
Anyone who knows Frizinghall...
Some people are confusing two issues here:
1) whether it is right or wrong for West Yorkshire Metro Cards / Travelcards to allow cross boundary travel (without stopping at the changeover station); and
2) the fact that by not excluding it, in their terms and conditions, such cards are currently...
On the last two Saturday early evenings (1st and 8th) I've travelled, with Virgin, from Preston to Crewe. On both occasions the on board staff were announcing that people, travelling to Liverpool, should stay on board to either Warrington or Crewe and change there.
We are aware of an issue with emails from the Forum to Microsoft-based email accounts (hotmail/outlook/live.com email addresses). This is being looked into currently, thanks for your patience meanwhile.
