I got a reminder for mine 4 weeks before expiry in November 2020.
I am opted in for marketing (with my Railcard), something I don't usually bother with but, in this case, it is not much of a problem, as I only receive around 2 marketing emails per month.
Additionally, as with most renewable...
The road was marked with yellow hatching and lots of warning signs. People just ignored the signs. I think many must have assumed that the line was no longer used. It must have come as a surprise to them to return to their cars, to find they had been roughly bumped out of the way and a ticket on...
I lived in Weymouth in the 1980s and one of my 'party tricks' was to take friends, visiting Weymouth, down to the Badger Brewery pub on the quay. I think it was around 10:30pm when the police would come into the pub to round up volunteers to bounce cars out of the way for the late train to...
I had a similar issue with the online claim form for East Midlands Railway; I just put in the details for the first of my split tickets, but claimed for the total cost of all the tickets and attached a scan of all the tickets. My claim was approved the day after and paid correctly within 48 hours.
It states "from and to any Greater Manchester train station", not "from or to any Greater Manchester train station" (my bold).
My understanding is that both stations must be in Greater Manchester to qualify. I regularly split my tickets at Stockport and Rochdale to take advantage of this.
Last year (pre-Avanti) there was severe weather disruption on the west coast and my Virgin train from Lancaster to Crewe was running well over two hours late (I had an advance ticket). NRE stated ticket acceptance was in place with various other operators, so I thought no problem, I can get an...
If buying early enough to have them posted to me (at no extra cost) then I will opt for 'credit card' tickets that fit neatly in my wallet next to my railcard.
Equally, for last minute purchases, at my local station, I will purchase 'credit card' tickets from the machines (I will avoid the...
Northern briefly tweeted, at 5pm, that the sale was live online and on the app. After numerous responses suggesting otherwise the tweet was quickly deleted.
You are just allocated a seat, but at least you can see the seat offered before deciding whether or not to complete the booking.
I suppose you could keep dropping bookings into your basket, until you get a seat that is acceptable, then remove all the other ones from your basket; not that I'm...
Things may have changed since earlier on, but I've just done a test 'purchase' and could see the offered seat numbers, without having to complete the transaction.
Get yourself a collapsible water bottle and download the 'Refill' app. The app will tell you your nearest free water refill point. There are over 20,000 places signed up in the UK, including many at railway stations.
As an Ornithologist. I can assure you that the presence of Peregrines in our towns and cities is as a result of natural colonisation.
Regarding bird of prey centres, yes there can sometimes be an interaction between wild and captive birds; my local bird of prey centre reports that sometimes the...
I think there's confusion here between wild Peregrine Falcons, which have naturally recolonised towns and cities, and the use of falconers to fly captive bred hawks and falcons at various locations, including railway stations, to help control pigeons/doves.
I'm not sure that anyone running bird...
My favourite (I still have the TRUST printout that someone gave me):
23 June 2001 - 10:38 Glasgow Central to Euston service (1M05) - Train delayed at Lancaster due to 'Monkey Loose On Train'.
