I'm pretty certain that your training will be set depending on your location? But you will need to do the gwr corporate training first which might be Monday to Friday but I'm not sure . Why no ask he for your line managers details so you can ask them
I've been a guard for near on 15 years . I would say for me the job has changed massively in that time , we have had small snippets removed from our role over the years . I would say depending what toc you are going for it's a no brainer . Join the railway .

It's might be 9-3ish at the training depot but depends where you're based as to how you get to the training depot and what time you start , I know some that's been nearly 12hrs most days from door to door .
Mobile means you can go to places that have yards or travel with a train that needs shunting in to places . You will have a base but if you need to drive some other place nearby then you would do that . I don't believe that there is any train driving involved but driving of a motor vehicle will...
I asked the same question when a guards position came up with swr at weymouth and was told even tho I'm a guard with gwr I would have to sit the assessment like any other person applying . Internal is internal with gwr only which as you state is madness
