Why doesn’t all new rolling stock have gangways

755s were Not ordered for Liv St - Norwich. They were ordered for rural routes.

    Mileages - What's Correct?

Long distance journeys via York on Railmiles take the shortest rioute, i.e. round the freight lines avoiding York station. You have to put your journey in as two seperate journeys, breaking at York to get the via the station mileage. 1768415551 Paddington is something of an oddball as the zero...

    Or you could go old school, 382/0, 382/1, 780/2, 780/3, 781/4.

Why are some numbers on the 710s skipped/missing?

There was an option for a further 249 vehicles on the original order, which was only partly taken up.

What’s the longest dwell time that any UK service has at a station en route?

Cardiff-Pompeys were a fresh loco, they never ran round. Summer Saturday Cardiff-Weymouths however did sometimes run round, especially in later days when the 'Bucket and Spade' was the only loco hauled down the route.

    TfW to Bristol

Not true, once an hour you can catch a train from Stapleton Rd to Filton AW and then pick up the Cardiff service from there.

    HS2 Class 895s (Hitachi Alstom High-Speed)

Apologies if I've missed this, but I can't seem to find any reference to how many coaches these sets will be. Total length of about 200m could be achieved several ways, but 8x25m is the obvious one.

    195s on the Cumbrian Coast

Whitehaven tunnel is single track through a double track tunnel, so clearances through the tunnel are not an issue.

Is there still one at the south end of Derby station (ramps) or did it disappear with the rebuild a few years ago?

Trivia: National Rail served stations that have no public road access

There's an unofficial footpath from the west end of the platform up the bank in the fork of the lines that's used by locals. I'm not sure where it leads, but I've seen it used a few times while transferring from the Westport train onto the 141 and cravens to Ballina and vice-versa.

Trivia: National Rail served stations that have no public road access

It's a public road from the North, private from the South, although realistically nobody is going to be coming from the North.

There's a road right up to the platform end.

    Best 1st class?

Bristol-Pad on a HST was very nice in FC. The free drinks and snacks were a bonus, but not as much as the FC lounge at Pad, the free offerings there were excellent.

ScotRail Suburban Fleet (EMU and BEMU) Market Engagement

I think it's the distance between the bogies that's too long. ps just loooked it up, a 170 is approximately 1m longer than a 156.

GBRf Class 99 - 30 locomotives now ordered

If they are to replace the 73s then a high EH rating is not required as they would only be working the short portions, not a full 16 coach rake. An enhanced EH rating is only needed south of Glasgow/Edinburgh.

TRIVIA: Most circuitous shortest route by rail

You were lucky. When my friend and I tried it, we transferred from the 37 on the sleeper to the 156 at Fort Bill only for the guard to come through and inform us that the Mallaig-Kyle ferry was cancelled due to bad weather. We ended up on the coach to Kyle for the 37 to Dingwall and coach to...
