Just heard on Radio Humberside that Northern has apologised for so many cancellations today.
Spokesperson said it was due to"unprecedented level of staff sickness".
Explanations do not tally up!!!!
Interesting that you mention locked toilets. It happened to me earlier in the year and I complained to conductor. Got the reply that Northern dont HAVE to provide toilets so being locked didnt matter! When I countered that toilets are part of customer service provision he went silent!!
Same issue as with Hull to Halifax service. I agree with you that York to Blackpool shd be robust. Its such an important service given its only 1tph. It hasnt been robust of late sadly!!!
But given the chronic unreliability of TPE services atm the Northern service might actually help to fill gaps!
Take ur point though. A half hourly or so service from Hull to Leeds wd be better.
Northern are supposed to be adding a York to Scarboro service at some future time and precisely the...
Yes I agree a good example of "connectivity". Lets hope its a success.
170s versus 195s? Im inclined to say 170s but they do need a chance to get going and there are loads of stops on this service!
There was talk at one time that the service wd go onto Bridlington. That wd have been an asset...
Heard on the radio (Burnsie show on BBC Humberside ) that launch train was late in arriving. Pity as this a very useful service. Cd be a good competitor for TPE if Northern cd sort things out.
There was talk that it wd run to Beverley and Bridlington but service from there now runs direct to...
Some are on the new Halifax to Hull service. One of the early eastbounds may bring new 170 over to Hull. In last timetable I believe there was an ecs 170 working from Holbeck sidings to Hull.
I know! And we dont want any training as that wd mean even more cancellations! But I wd like to see how the 170s go up to Copy Pit. I think they wd be impressive there.
Not sure if the Hull to Halifax with its numerous stops is the best thing for 170s; always seem to me to be best at speed.
Excellent new service however from Hull to Halifax and given shambles on TPE a useful alternative (if it runs!!) from Humberside to West Yorks.
That is fantastic news about 170s still about at Bev on Hull to Scarboro line!!
In fairness as a line we have fared pretty well in the last few months compared to otheres on the Northern network.
Btw 180113 and not an 802 on 1054 Bev to KX this morning!
Hull is a TPE run station but there are no barriers so no checks off Doncaster/Brid line services. Ticket checking by conductors is very variable on those Northern services.
Im not sure Northern put into place extra staff on days when there are one-off events like last Sundays Festival of Xmas...
Whether TPE are worse than Northernrailway is a moot point. BUT in respect of Scarboro the Northern service to Hull and beyond has fared pretty well recently compared to other lines and services in the north. As I said in an earlier post if I were a Scarboro resident I wd use the Hull line to...
There is one alternative if you are heading south which is to book.on Northernrailway to Doncaster via Hull. Im no defender of them but better chance of getting to London and south via connections at Donny. Defo not if you are going to Man Airport however-south Pennine TPEs just as bad as the rest.
They work Hull to York and Hull to Scarborough routes, though the latter are reportedly going over to 170 and 158 haulage in new timetable. 155s will be on Bridlington to York runs.
