Our new ticketing site is now live! Using either this or the original site (both powered by TrainSplit) helps support the running of the forum with every ticket purchase! Find out more and ask any questions/give us feedback in this thread!
I've tried to use the LNER android app to pay for tickets on a number of occasions now, but it always says "Oops! Looks like you're not connected to mobile data or Wi-Fi" (or very similar words).
Has anyone else had similar problems?
This might be of interest to some on here - the currently non-electrified stabling sidings at the northern end of Newton Aycliffe (Merchant Park) Depot, Hitachi's main works in the UK - are getting wired up. A pair of booms have gone up over the roads, with conductors presumably due to follow...
Seeing as the old thread was closed last September, I couldn't think of where to put this.
The RSAS (Rail Systems Alliance Scotland; NR + Babcock + Arcadis) have started a relatively low-profile project nr Carstairs Jn (I say low-profile as I can't find any detailed info); piling specialists Van...

Not sure if anyone on here's seen the NRWG (Northern Route Working Group) blog lately, but this is their latest post...
From New Civil Engineer:
Very interesting indeed - glad to see wiring of Leeds/Sheffield to Hull included too. No wires mentioned for the Hope Valley, sadly.
On the second phase of the ECML Power Supply Upgrade, I have noticed that Static Frequency Converters (SFCs) are planned to be used for new grid connections. One is already installed at Potteric Carr (Doncaster) as an independent feeder for the IEP Depot & the ECML, utilising a 33kV grid...
Couldn't find a dedicated thread for this, so I've created one myself.
So far, the entire GEML from Bethnal Green to Chelmsford (exc. Stratford) and the Southend Victoria branch are now fully renewed (AFAIK).
Work has also apparently started on renewing OLE on the LTS route, including around...
According to this video, 30 major assets need to be handed over by Crossrail to TfL prior to the Central Section's EiS (Entry into Service). So far, 5 have been handed over:
Royal Oak Tunnel Portal
Victoria Dock Tunnel Portal
Pudding Mill Lane Tunnel Portal
Mile End Shaft
Custom House Station...
This has emerged on Rail Advent: https://www.railadvent.co.uk/2020/01/new-plans-for-west-midlands-trains-depot-could-bring-100-new-jobs.html
It seems that the earlier plan to stable the 730s in Duddeston has been kiboshed in favour of Bescot, which would make more sense, bearing in mind how...
Looking at the Fen Line on Flickr t'other day, I saw that these wires here (see red arrow) are present along all the single line sections of the route.
Are these auto-transformer feeder (aka Auxilary Feeder) wires? Or just the Return Conductor for the other track, insulated from the other RC?
While I think it's fantastic that EMR will be running 2tph on the soon-to-be-electrified Corby Branch of the MML, I've been thinking that it could go a little further. My proposal is to extend 1tph of the 2 proposed to Peterborough, via a new chord linking the Corby-Manton line with the former...
Posted this in the MML Electrification thread, but it's certainly worth a look at the plan for rail upgrades in the Midlands for the next 25 years! http://www.railtechnologymagazine.com/rail-news/midlands-engine-rail?dorewrite=false
Amid all the Brexit chaos in Parliament yesterday, there was a debate on electrifying the Lakes Line.
Tim Farron, MP for Westmorland & Lonsdale (the constituency through which the Lakes Line runs) has given it his support.

As I've started a Tracking/Queries thread for the WCML PSU, I thought I'd start one for the ECML too.
Phase 1: Wood Green (London) - Bawtry (Doncaster)
Cabled ATF (in troughs, rather than suspended from structures) in operation between Welwyn SATS & Hitchin SATS.
New Substations:
Potters Bar...
Bringing this thread up again, I'm wondering what the current process of the WCML Power Supply Upgrade is, having noticed ATF supports up on sections of the route (sans wires) for a number of years now.
I know Whitmore - Weaver Jct is waiting on Crewe ATFS being installed/commissioned, and I...

Leics' most popular regional fish-wrapper (the Mercury) has picked up on a story to 'pivot' Leicester Midland London Road station round by 90 degrees clockwise and completely overhaul the station...
Since there doesn't seem to be a specific thread for this topic, I thought I'd start one myself.
What freight contracts seem to be on the horizon for a change in operator?
Ones I know of are the Daventry-Coatbridge workings for the Russell Logisitics group (currently 2 FL 90s) are due to...
I just happened to notice 1N92 (1127 King's X to Sunderland) pass Werrington Jct a few minutes ago, and noticed that, rather than the usual lone GC 180, there were TWO of them coupled together to form a 10car set.
Is that de rigeur for GC on that service since the timetable change?

Seems that Quainton Rd station at the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre was used as the location.
